Just listened to this on R4, about the noises of skate boarding and what it means to the culture and the sport.
Made me wonder about those sounds that are special to mountain bikers: The buzz of side knobs in a corner. The brief silence of being in the air. The clunk of a shift that tells you 'yes, you did have a great left to bail into'.Â
I'd never really considered sound to be a part of biking, but this will be on my mind when next I am out
I don't think your link goes to the programme OP - it just takes you to the current broadcast
This is a BBC radio doc that probably predated 'BBC Sounds' so def not on there to be found now - however it got a second life in a 99%Invisible episode

Its about sound in sport more generally - but focuses on the guy who is the sound designer for the Olympics, who's just a lovely guy to listen to.
I have done it thousands of times, but that first click of a cleat engaging at the start of a ride.It still sends a micro message to my brain saying "Here we go".
And for that fraction of a second, everything is right in the world,a tiny moment of calm.
