Sound issue this time.
I would like to connect my Blu ray player directly to my new soundbar. But....................
My nice posh player has a HDMI Audio out (not ARC) and soundbar only has Arc in (micro HDMI)= no sound.
Player set to output sound in port 2, no TV only a projector. Is there a unit that can replicate a TV Arc out that I can connect the player and then to the soundbar?
Didn't research properly, thought arc and HDMI Audio were the same 🙁
The R in ARC is 'return,' it's not going to be there (or needed) if there's nothing to return from.
I think my first port of call would be trying a different cable and looking to see if sound formats were compatible.
As Cougar says, the BL player has no need for an ARC port
Your system should work if you have the right cable and settings.
If it doesn't, something in the above is wrong or the kit faulty.
If you're really struggling with it, drop the part numbers in here and we can have a check.
The ARC bit is so the soundbar can receive all audio from any source connected (or built into) the TV. So I think you should be connecting your player direct to the TV and the TV to the bar (that's the ARC bit). Having said that I've never come across any AV component that uses micro-HDMI, that seems a bit weird.
Is there a unit that can replicate a TV Arc out that I can connect the player and then to the soundbar?
To specifically answer that bit, one of these seems to be able to sort out any ARC problem going, but is probably not needed (or complete overkill), for what you are trying to achieve.

Certainly as the "only" connection, anyway. #areyousure ?
Is that uHDMI connector actually an output rather than an input perhaps? For ARCing from the soundbar to, say, a sub? RTFM?
Does blu ray player have an optical output you can connect to the sound bar for the audio?
S801B Samsung- has power and Arc in only. (And a USB port) its a nice low profile design.
Mentions in the review I watched to check for compatibility🥴
no fibre or co-ax unfortunately. The old bose has a fibre connection to the projector.
bluray player is Sony ubp-X800M2
help-full posts are very much appreciated. Thanks
Alright. From the BD-player manual:
If selecting this connection method , set HDMI Audio Output in System Settings to
HDMI2 or Auto.

No sound is output from a Sound Bar/AV amplifier connected to the HDMI OUT 2 jack.
• Even when you connect the player to a TV through a Sound Bar/AV amplifier (receiver), the input source may not switch to the player depending on the settings.
Check the following.
– The HDMI cable is connected to the HDMI OUT 2 jack on the player and the HDMI input jack on the Sound Bar/AV
amplifier. Do not connect the cable to the HDMI output jack on the Sound bar/AV amplifier.
– The player is selected as the input source on the Sound Bar/AV amplifier.
• If the problem persists after checking the above, try the following.
– Set Control for HDMI in System Settings to Off. When you set it to Off, the BRAVIA Sync features are disabled.
– If the Sound Bar/AV amplifier is connected to an ARC-compatible HDMI input jack on your TV, remove the HDMI cable from the jack. After you disconnect the cable, the Sound Bar/AV amplifier will no longer output sound from the TV.
• When you connect the player to a Sound Bar/AV amplifier via the HDMI OUT 2 jack, make sure that HDMI Audio Output in System Settings is set to HDMI2 or Auto .
Does the projector maybe do arc? Seems unlikely.
Or an optical out to Bluetooth adapter
Don't the player and sound bar both support BT?
Sorry if I'm totally wrong!
So you need to plug the player into the projector and then the projector into the sound bar via the ARC port. 2 HDMI cables required.
Don’t the player and sound bar both support BT?
I replied to this and it seems to have been munched.
Both devices support Wi-Fi. The soundbar can accept a Wi-Fi audio input. Whether the BD player can provide a Wi-Fi audio output is less clear to me. It might be worth playing about with?
Blu-ray output to TV/projector.
Then TV/projector to sound bar.
Then tell the TV/projector it will use the soundbar for its audio?
In the absence of an AV amp isn’t this how folks make use of all those HDMI inputs on their TVs? Then the ARC bits let the control signals flow between the devices.
Yep, so the HDMI labelled ARC is effectively an audio output when connected to a speaker. It outputs the audio from any of the other inputs down the HDMI. It may well be labelled HDMI In ARC and that’s because it works as an HDMI signal input as well. If it has ARC written on it then it will send audio…
Thanks again everyone
apologise for missing the BT q. Yes player has bluetooth (firestick also) And can get sound but only loudish, but perfectly clear. If I use the spotify connection within the app I can only get to level 20 on the volume as it is so loud unlike the BT.
i thought for atmos I would need a expensive fast cable, I have ordered another shorter on to check if the cable is the issue.
no arc on the Optoma 42, but have a fibre cable running from the 42 through the loft and into the the old soundbar.
i have ordered a short mini HDMi to check if the cable is the issue
Tried with the downstairs TV’s arc HDMI. Arc input and cable work fine when connected. So my expensive 7m cable is ok and the sound bar works fine, but not where I want.
Every cloud 😃
back to square one.
