Can anyone recommend an annual policy company that will cover EU hols for the family but including things like MTBing, via ferrata etc AND will not require a detailed history of every visit to the doctor for the last 30 years or whatever?
If you bank with lloyds the premier acc travel insurance does all of the above, covers all holidays, daughter while she's away on camps with ATC, all short caravanning weekends too, also covers me for skiing and scuba diving, only a £40 excess which can be waved for 12 months for £10, check your bank, you may already have similar cover.
Quick edit it is underwritten and administered by Axa and was very easy the one time we have needed to claim.
We've got ours through our natwest joint account. Covers mountain biking, not sure about via ferrata. Very fuss free. Wife has made a couple of claims. Phone them up, state out of pocket costs, they ask if you have receipts and could produce them if asked but we've never needed to. Cheque arrives soon after. With the cashback thing on the account it works out very cheap too
I had mine years ago, I talking the nineties when I needed it and that was through Columbus. That was a long time ago so my post could be completely unhelpful.
I use the one that comes with my Nationwide current account. When we went to Vietnam and were going to indulge in Kitesurfing and unguided off road mountain biking I rang up, they asked a couple of questions and charged a very reasonable small extra premium.
Very happy with them. We pay the £10 a month which gives us full European breakdown cover on our car and van plus phone cover and other stuff.
Do you mean a holiday where you just so happen to do some riding, or a specific riding holiday? These are very different things in the eyes of insurance companies
Cheers chaps - not with any of those banks and First Direct have travel insurance but not for coverage as specified.
Legend - no, it's a general camping holiday with the odd biking and via farrata organised ourselves.
If you look at premium bank accounts make sure you see what else they're offering of value as you may be able to get cover for other things too e.g. phone insurance, breakdown cover, free overseas cash withdrawals etc.

The bank account insurance policies are a bargain if they cover more than one person or a whole family (if you can still get them - most banks seem to have closed the premium accounts to new customers because i think there was a bit of a mis-selling thing going on), Our co-op one covers skiing and scuba diving but we came to the conclusion that the sort of mountain biking that anyone on this forum would indulge in went beyond their scope.
If it's a bit of bridleway pootling then fine but anything more a bit of a risk.
Didn't think of calling and asking to pay for increased risks cover = smart.
What kind of "MTBing"?
Most will cover riding a "mountain bike" on tarmac or very tame surface as part of a leisurely ride while on holiday, but won't cover actual mountain biking off road, especially as a holiday. Often restricts things like uplifts, higher than a certain altitude, rough terrain (meaning other than tarmac), and definitely not racing or events.
Personally I use standard travel insurance and then get Snowcard or similar for a one off MTB trip, just to cover the actual MTB stuff.
DogTag's explanation for 'types of mountain biking' is pretty good -
https://www.dogtag.co.uk/sports-information/mountain-biking-and-downhill-mountain-biking/
"it's that the purpose of your trip to the top is to cycle downhill on rough and challenging terrain on a trail that's designed for the purpose – a trail where going up is banned because you'll meet somebody like yourself coming down"
Yes, proper MTBing (and via Ferrata) - ie Australian Alps, Italian Dolomites!
I've got WW cover with my Smile a/c that also covers MTBing ( I got confirmation before I went to Chatel a few years ago). I pay £15 a month but this also includes European breakdown cover (& I've no idea how this compares to other companies)
I've just claimed back almost 1k after having to cancel 2 UK holidays.
+1 for Lloyds premier. I have it and they're not arsed about my ileostomy which most insurers kick up a fuss about.
Thanks all - not really wanting to switch account to get this for various reasons.
Anyone using a third party insurance?
