Tuesday night's ride didn't end well...
Usual woodsy singletrack ridden it umpteen times before. Enjoying it flowing nicely as it was a bit drier.
I /think/ a Stick/log jammed or flicked up against Crank arm/BB and coincided with a pedal stroke. The bike stopped, but i carried on, over the bars and then bike looped over and landed with 1 foot still clipped in.
Went down hard, managed to get up.
Rode home about 7 miles quite a bit of pain, probably on adrenaline. I think bike is OK - it made it back.
Got home, got changed and got SWMBO, to take me to hospital.
2 CT scans to check for head injury (helmet cracked in the crash) and to check for kidney damage to pain in lower back.
Results - head and kidney fine, fractured collar bone (which I had guessed) and 3 fractured vertebrae.
Allowed to go home as I could walk.
Now sat at home feeling very sore and annoyed as I had been building up for a long ride for end of lock down.
Just goes to show how it can just go wrong sometimes.
Missus also making noises about solo winter night rides being off the cards....
Good job I just got GCN+...
Any suggestions on what replace Specialized S3 helmet - XC and gravel usage.?
Bummer! get well soon Mr, managed to throw myself over the bars once on a pan flat trail depressing the forks in preparation for a climb.
Oooooooffff, I reckon you dodged a bullet there!
Heal up fast!
Oooof! Heal up well.
When I first got into MTB, I probably went over the bars every other ride for quite a while 😀 Bloody lucky never to hurt myself really, never landed on my head & always unclipped. I’d be loosening off that pedal! GWS.
Get well soon.
Hope you have better luck than I did with your collarbone.
Broke mine in July last year and its still not fully fixed despite an op on it.
I've just started riding again against the doctors advice.
Couldn't take being off the bike any longer.
solo winter night rides
Urgh no.
As Keith Bontrager famously (maybe) said: Dark, wet, solo. Pick one.
Maybe get a specialized propero. Also ouch.
Ouch. You can fall off anywhere, but at least it was off road. Could have been worse on the road, they tend to be harder and full of traffic.
.
Ouchie - heal well.
Wow, bad luck, hope you heal soon.
Get well soon.
Impressive list of injuries to have cycled home with.
Thanks all for the good wishes.
Booo, sorry. GWS
Get well soon.
I crashed last Sept on a trivial bit of single track after clipping a hidden stump, OTB and faceplant = stiches. I was thankful not to break anything.
Yeah, hurts. I got ejected in similar fashion last year, straight into tree. Luckily, took most of the impact on my arm that I got in between the tree and my ribs.
That hurt for a while.
Get well soon. Went OTB in 2019 and although nothing was broken the soft tissue injuries to took months to heal and resolve properly.
Try and rein in the frustration. A decent physio is a wise investment.
