A quick recap for those who haven't followed this 6 year saga of me vs. medicine so far.

I did this

AnkleEnhanced by WCA!, on Flickr

So they did this

20151021_105206 by WCA!, on Flickr

But this still ket happening

20160828_234229 by WCA!, on Flickr

I didn't like the pain and they didn't like the xray so they decided to bolt through the blue lines to stop anything inside moving and hurting

Ankle by WCA!, on Flickr

Immediately post-op looked fine

20180202_062626 by WCA!, on Flickr

Until I moved my foot a bit

20180202_001654 by WCA!, on Flickr

When I looked at the other side of the foot it was like the horses head sene from The Godfather

20180202_092541 by WCA!, on Flickr

The reckoned another bandage over the top to add some pressure would be fine and sent me home at lunchtime. When I took the Vacu-cast boot off to go to bed it was clear they were wrong so back off to hospital

20180202_214147 by WCA!, on Flickr

They decided to unwrap to see what it was like under the dressing

20180202_223524 by WCA!, on Flickr

I think I have found the source of the blood

20180202_223634 by WCA!, on Flickr

They cleaned it all up and the incision looked okay. Any surgeons want to comment on the number and spacing of the sutures?

20180202_223944 by WCA!, on Flickr

All cleaned, covered and ready for wrapping before sending me home again at 11pm. No fresh blood showing through the bandages today.

Crikey that must have hurt ... 🙁

The first two pics make me feel a bit light headed while the gory ones do not.

Falling off a ladder wasn't it? This is why I avoid DIY, just in case!

Hope this sorts it. Fighting off a shark with that ladder was worth it though.

My eldest son got bitten on the foot by a croc in Oz (small one).

It looked better than that... 🙂

WCA, i know im not the first to say it, but you certainly live up to your username.

Im currently laid up while a bimalleolar fracture of the ankle heals up, so your pics did make me wince a bit.

Mine looks absolutely perfect compared to those though.

Heal well bud.

I really feel for you WCA with your continuing issues. Feel like a fraud looking at those pics as my ankle fusion has been a total success story!

I was expecting much worse under all the bandages. I hope that sorts itself out soon!

I once asked the nurse (the third time I broke my arm) why they were giving me a nice plastic splint now (one of those perforated plastic ones that melts in hot water and wraps around your arm so you can take it off and change the bandages underneath to cure the itch/stink) and not at the beginning.

Answer was twofold, one the surgeon and Dr's don't have time/inclination to learn how to do another type of splint and plaster is really quick when the patient is knocked out, stick it on quickly and by the time they're awake it's set. Secondly, plastic doesn't absorb blood half as well as plaster and bandages.

Finally got an update and it looks like the operation was a success. Yay!

Only in the cast and on two crutches until May/June. Boo!

The new bolts in my collection are the one at the front and the long diagonal one. You can't see the bone graft which is a good sign apparently

You'll probably have to think about retiring from track and field events...

I have already signed up for this :  http://www.southamptonbikepark.com/dualseries

I probably won't race too hard on the first one in two weeks but 30 May one could be the day after I get rid of the cast and crutches so I will have at least most of Wednesday to learn the track and regain my fitness.....

What could possibly go wrong?

Where WCA is concerned, the internet lacks the capacity to list all the possibilities.
