...on the other side of the headland with the ancient burial site on it.
What was the common name for that particular bay?
It's now marked as Porth Nobla, just as Cable Bay is now Porth Trecastell.
Walked up there today from Aberffraw along the coastal path, but cannot for the life of me remember what we used to call the place in the 70's.
Any idea?
As a kid i think we called it Church Bay....
Does that help?
Ian
When we used to windsurf in the 80s I'm sure the locals called it Broad Beach although it's been that long I probably have the wrong beach
Broad beach is the middle part of the stretch of beach I believe. Nobla is a really small flat sandy section right next to the headland.
I can't remember what it was called either. We used to go surfing there at uni.
It's been marked as Porth Nobla on the maps since forever (well, since the 1890s at any rate) Lots of maps here Old Maps Online
Sorry, I know that doesn't really answer the original question, but I do rather like old maps
Pretty sure it was Church Bay...
Broad beach is south of Rhosneigr....its church bay
Thanks folks, yes, Church Bay rings a bell.
Much appreciated.
