Looks like we will be having a few days on Anglesey in early Nov. Me, my wife and the dogs. Taking bikes (me - gravel, her - road), fell shoes.
Please suggest where to visit, see, do etc etc.
We are hoping to go somewhere quiet and avoid all the fireworks as one of our dogs freaks out at loud noises.

Will be ~40+ miles each way, perhaps by car or the train the Blaenau Ffestiniog, but maybe Stwlan Dam private road climb.

Either of the lighthouses at South Stack or Penmon Point are worth a ride out to

There have been a few threads on here about stuff to do on Anglesey in recent years.

Where are you staying? it's not a big place but crossing the island isn't that quick (apart from the A55)

Circular walk along some of the most impressive sea cliffs in Wales - North Stack to South Stack via Wen Zawn and Holyhead Mountain.

Treardur Bay is lovely.

Pilly Palace (sp?) is a Butterfly farm. Not great for cycling but it is under cover for those really horribly rainy days, or at least one of them

Avoid Rhosneigr with the nervous dog, it's right next door to RAF Valley and can be pretty noisy on flying days.

the gaol at Beaumaris is an interesting trip for half a day, don't know if it's dog friendly.

Newburgh forest / beach with the dogs.

Pary's Mine if you want to have holiday photos that convince people you've been to Mars.

Plas Newydd if you like a bit of Napoleonic History / art.

Bryn Celli Ddy (It's phonetic in Welsh, honest)

There used to be a big exhibition of the Welsh Princes, I think at Caernarfon Castle or maybe Conwy? Well worth a read up on the history, like a real life game of Thrones, but with more murdering and wolves.

Accommodation not booked so can't answer where we're staying yet. I'm unlikely to do a track day, tbh, but some great suggestions so far.

Came on here to say this. On a clear day the views back to Snowdonia are superb. And can get away from any sort of crowds by walking in to the forest (just check there aren’t any events on the day as I turned up once to be on the middle of a triathlon event).

Gravel bike ride:

Park at Bodfordd car park on north side of Llyn Cefni (buzzards nest in the tress next to it), ride along the res, then below the dam to the Dingle (red squirrels), then take the cycle track from Llangefni to Malltreath along Afon Cefni (if you're lucky you'll see the ospreys). The Riverside Cafe at Malltreath is bike friendly.

Then over to Newborough Forest and blast along the tracks. Have a packed lunch on Llanddwyn island, then ride back any way you like

For walks, the coast is lovely - think of it like a small version of Pembrokeshire. A nice quite walk is at the top NW corner of the island - Park at Cemlyn Bay (west car park), walk along the coast to Carmel Head, walk south to Church Bay (wavecrest cafe) then back over the hill to the car

That but park in LLangefni and ride through the remarkably pretty gorge to the lake - cake at the 'Coffee Hut' in LLangefni afterwards (My BIL's place). Time Llanddwyn island for below 1/2 tide. You could make two trips out of this - Newborough forest and Llanddwyn and out to Abermenai point is largely rideable / a lovely walk*.

Pary’s Mine if you want to have holiday photos that convince people you’ve been to Mars.

Parys Mountain if you're looking for it on a map. I believe some episodes of Dr Who were filmed there. Remarkable landscape, & all sorts of industrial relics if you walk in from the North.

Walk next to the Swellies when there's a tide running is impressive. You can go looking for the (stone) lions under Britannia bridge and there are bits of Stevenson's original structure preserved underneath it if that's your thing.

Porth Wen brickworks on the North coast is interesting if you fancy a bit of exploring ('unofficial' path).

*I don't run unless pursued by large beasts with teeth, but if I did, I imagine this would be a great trail run. Wild ponies about, too.

Keep an eye out for dolphins and seals by the costs, especially further North. Seal cubs are being born at present - Angel Bay, over the water, near Little Orme has resident seals.

In true STW fashion I'll recommend something not in Anglesey. Just over the Menai Strait is Bodnant gardens. I first visited as an 8 year old, there's a magical glade in the steep valley that is one of those magical memories. We went last year when holidaying in Anglesey, and couldn't get my wheelchair into the glade, too steep.

@tollydog  - no probs!

Porth Wen is a good idea.  The northern coastline is really good walking - the hardest part seems to be creating circular walks as there are so many things to look at in the next bay etc.

The beach alongside RAF valley is a nice place to run if the wind isn't too bad

LLanberis just 25 mins drive and the mountain that stands above it awaits you. No ban in October. Can easily handle the tourist path up and down on a gravel bike.

Lovely. Two of the best years of my life were spent being a student and living in Beaumaris. Happy days.
