Technically speaking a jerry can actually has a capcity of 19 litres so storing a full one of those at home would actually be illegal if full of petrol.
Not sure on the regs re. diesel though.
They may be selling 25% more fuel at the moment but people aren't using any more fuel. So just leave it a while before filling up.
seem to recall someone round our way getting their collar felt (and all their neighbours being evacuated) in 2000 for stockpiling petrol in dustbins!
A41 today M53 to Birkenhead tunnel 5 petrol stations out of fuel, long annoying queues at cheshire oaks Sainsburys, people queing for fuel, i wasnt one of them.

local papers websites say lots of garages out of fuel
Result lots of cars disapeasred off the road, nice for cycling tonight.
