ANyone got any advice on this, please:

I'm not up on the tech and there may well be a simple fix for this but...

On my Android phone, if ever I want to do something "important" that requires me to repeat my login to my google a/c, the email that it presents me with (and that isn't an editable field) is a gmail address belonging to a work account that I haven't used since at least a year BEFORE I got this current phone.
I set up the phone using my main home email, as I have for my home PC (and it knows that from a perspective of what it shows on-screen) and the old work a/c is not in the list of accounts active on the phone (so I can't remove it).
This weirdness seems only to happen on the phone - my PC goes to the "correct" address

so, err, WTF ??

Have a look at the settings in the "Autofill" section on the phone settings, it might be coming from there

Thanks andy but I can't see anything obvious that'd work - I deleted the saved login passwords for that email a/c and restarted the phone but problem persists

Found some more weirdness though - in "manage my profiles" there's a profile that (I swear, your honour 🤐 ) I have not used or created that seems to be associated with playing games if proximity on the screen is relevant. Anyone know what this is all about - or do all Android phones somehow auto-create a profile ??

I don't know if this helps, but if I go to settings - Google, next to my account image/name is a small dropdown arrow > if I click on this I can log into the phone with other Google accounts (I have a second one that I occasionally use).

Back up your phone and factory reset it?

pretty much resigned to exactly that but I can't see that it's going to change anything. Guess we'll see

Have you tried logging into your main account from here and then going into the "Manage your Google account" option? It might then want to to login again, and if it presents your old email address you're back to square one, but for some reason I don't get asked to log in a second time if I access my account via a web browser on my PC.

There are options in my account to add and remove email addresses.

Just out of interest, what email address does the GMail App show?

I am logged in as the account I "always" use and I can "manage my google account" without further login required
I found this odd behaviour when I looked at setting up passkeys and when I went to the relevant url (https.g.co/passkeys) it asked for the old email's password. If I go to the same link via PC it asks for the correct account's password.

gmail app is in the correct account name

🤷‍♂️

Strange.

When I go to that link it presents me with a dropdown menu from which I can select either of my Google accounts.

It's a bit of a stab in the dark, but you can clear and reset individual sites from within the Chrome settings. It might be worth a try in case there are any old files laying around.

err, would that be something that any idiot could achieve ?

(sorry, meant to add that I do get the dropdown you mention when going to the passkey page on my PC but not on the phone)

You need to go to Settings in Chrome, then Site Settings then All Sites at which point you can select sites you've visited individually and clear/reset them.

I think that the passkey link just redirects to accounts.google.com
