So, my Android phone is getting sloooow and I want to do a factory reset to pep it up a bit.
Is there anyway I can back up all my apps and stuff before I do it?
Contacts should by synced to Google.
Apps will prompt you to reinstall, assuming a recentish version of Android.
Settings, you'll need to root for that.
this isn't windows.
contacts etc should sync with your google account.
apps you installed will show up in the play store.
you could do it a titanium back up though i think the phone has to be rooted?
Good point, contacts are already synced to Google.
I'm on 4.0.4.
It's a Sony Xperia Mini Pro (SK17i) - I've not seen a root method yet. To be honest, it's the wireless setting that'll be a PITA if they're lost as I have loads of friend's/parents' networks etc in there.
I've got some apps on SD, I assume they'll be fine?
theres apps to backup wifi settings.
IHN, most Sony Android phones can be rooted.
Im sure there will be a root method for ICS on XDA Devs (http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1239). EVERY Sony Android handset i've had (X10i, Arc and now T) has been easily rootable.
Save all contacts to your memory card first, also any photos.
Once you've rooted (try and do it so it doesnt wipe your data, theres usually a choice if you're using flashtool), install & run SMS Backup and Restore for all your texts, then install & run Titanium Backup.
Once you've done a factory reset you can usually remove network and sony dross on the ROM, import your contacts, and then restore your apps via via Titanium Back and finally restore your SMS.
I've used (search play store)
SMS backup & restore
Contacts backup & restore
They sort your call logs, contacts & sms. For stuff like Whatsapp and other messaging apps, you will probably need to export messages from within the app.
For backing up apps, you'll need to either manually reinstall them, or use something like titanium backup.
I've never bothered with wifi settings backups, although I expect there's an app for that.
Pretty sure wireless settings are backed up to google.
My new phone logged itself into my office wifi....
Just swapped phones too, my contacts, apps, wi-fi passwords, etc were synced to Gmail and took care of themselves within 5 mins of putting my SIM in the new phone....i did however lose my messages but as others have said, there is an app for that.
I use Dropbox for back up for SMS MMS
As per deviant - I rooted and replaced the ROM on my Defy and I was pleased to see all my apps, contacts, wifi settings, favourites etc had been synched to Google and dumped back down on the new phone. (once i'd logged back into Google, natch)
I think the only thing that didn't come over were text messages IIRC
bruneep - how'd ya do that?
