Trying to get head round a Moto G as recommended on here, which is replacing my old Windows phone.
Can anyone recommend me a few free apps to fill it up a bit - news, fitness, maybe something I could use as a satnav.
Cheers
I find Google maps are for sat nav. Should be installed anyways
I use AutoVibrate to change the ring settings when I'm at work.
As above I use Google Maps for sat nav, but it does use data. I've tried NavFree for offline mapping but wasn't overly impressed.
I also use Endomondo for fitness.
Navigator as GPS with roadmaps
Oruxmap offroad offline
GPS status utility app
All the Google stuff obviously...it all integrates brilliantly on Android, sat-nav on Google Maps is great, the search function while in the phone dialler page is awesome but this might be a Nexus only function?...YouTube obviously, Facebook etc, Mytracks is great for recording rides without the competitive element of Strava. BBC news, BBC iplayer, BBC weather, RAC traffic app, Eurosport for sports news, RedBull TV for live DH action (and Rob Warner's commentary), TuneIn radio for web based radio from all over the world, eBay, Amazon, Smart Tools, Google Translate, Unit Converter (does currency, weight, distance etc), Google Chrome browser....so many to list, all free apart from Smart Tools which was a couple of quid.
Currently on an iPhone but would happily swap back again at the end of the contract.
BBC apps work well for news, sport and weather
BeyondPod for podcasts - strong ability to find stuff to listen to whatever your fancy.
Soundhound to track down a music track you hear in the background/pub/on tv if you want to find out what it is.
Colour Torch useful if your phone has a LED light on the rear, so you can use your phone as a torch. It can use the screen too, if not.
AIX weather is a nice weather widget.
RetroArch is nice if you like old games on the go.
Tunein radio is good for music.
I know this isn't very fitness related, but I'm sure Strava may be worth a go, seems to give tracking without killing the battery.
Flipboard for news, tech, art and random stuff
Viewranger for maps, not free but cheap
Tune in radio for broadcast music
Google goggles for IDing stuff/places
I've found Navfree great for driving, UK, France and USA. I don't have a good data allowance so wouldn't use "active" mapping like google
Similarly, backcountry navigator is ossum for offroad mapping (can load really detailed free maps though they can take up quite a lot of storage and I'm not sure you have a sd slot)
Swype, unless your OEM keyboard allows swiping
Tasker if you like to bugger about with things
Word lens is a good laugh and probably really useful if you travel a lot
Titanium backup
Orbot and Orweb.
i use evernote quite a bit ... very handy,
met office app
YouView is handy if you have YouView TV Box
and most of those listed above!
Google maps with Google calendar, synced to work outlook = really simple satnav and reminders. Turn on all the Google location services and such like for real 'oooooh, that's good' experience.
Bbc news and weather.
View ranger for bike/walking Navigation.
A torch app.
I also use play music app in car, having synced my iTunes library via Amazon, then into Google play.....
Maps.Me - free, offline mapping, lets you download whole countries at once
Google Keep - handy for quick notes
aCalendar - nicer than the standard calendar app
K9 Mail - better than the standard email app
soundcloud
chromecast
allcast
strava
mxplayer
bubbleupnp
dropbox
pocket
phone and bank apps
google keep
screebl - crashes but usefull
Strava.
Google Fit
TuneIn
IPlayer
Coming from windows phone there's a good chance you had Nokia Maps for your sat nav. Well its now available on Android with the same offline/download maps function.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.here.app.maps
Kindle lots of free and v cheap books available.
Endomondo is good for fitness and training tracking, one-off price for pro version.
BT Wifi - automatically connects to hotspots (If you have free Openzone/BT Wifi minutes with your broadband)
St John Ambulance (step by step first aid)
Wordfeud (scrabble)
Just got a new Android phone today. It runs kitkat. Can/should I update to lollipop?
Clash of Clans 😳
Our Norwegian friends at yr.no do a great Android app for the weather; the most accurate forecasts I've ever found.
araracer...what clan are you (from the leader of the 13th )
Google skymap is great
Blablacar, airbnb.
That's the cheapest holidays you'll ever get sorted.
My current favourites in no particular order -
Map my Ride
Backcountry Navigator - both these are good GPS type recorders for different reasons
Walklogger pedometer
Clinometer - useful spirit level functions
And as mentioned previously the various BBC apps such as iPlayer and weather.
All used on a mk1 Moto G
Accuweather app.
In addition to those listed:
Pvstar+ for playing youtube and other videos in the background
Hotukdeals for deal alerts
Iplayer radio app
Netflix
Gps status
ES file explorer
Dolphin browser
Droidcamx
My fitness pal
National rail
Money dashboard
Smart unlock - no me as to key in pin when on defined WiFi zones such as home
Trello - I'd forget to get out of bed in the morning if I didn't have anything to remind me to do so. I make lists of everything. Very handy.
Eurosport player - requires subscription, but worth it if you're into road racing.
