You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
I saw mention of the Motorola defy 2 as having this on the iPhone thread. It seems like a really useful feature to have when venturing into the hills. Anyway, it turns out that the Defy 2 is marketed as the Cat S75 in Europe and is available for around £500
I can't comment on the quality of the phone as I don't own one (yet), but as someone who had the unfortunate 'privilege' of spot tracker ownership this seems like a really good deal, especially when you think that the Defy messenger is £150 on its own.
Agreed, I think it is a good idea in principle. My only thought on the downside is that it is on a single device so maybe more chance of running out of charge...if there is no signal for mobile then your phone goes into overdrive to find signal which drains battery.
I think a separate unit would be sensible to ensure longer charge, but having never had to use a satellite link in anger or emergency I don't know how realistic my concern is.
