My old phone now has no mobile network connection, cos I have a new one, but the wifi's packed up. Any ideas on how I can get it connected to the internet?
Bluetooth hot spot tethering to the new phone.

Do I understand from that, that the new phone's wifi capability has packed up? If so, my first response would be to get it replaced toot sweet.
No, the wifi and bluetooth have packed up on the old one.
New SIM in old phone, new phone on Wifi?
New sim is a microsim, may require bodging 😕
Does the old phone have a 'no sim' service? If so, it might have wifi/Bluetooth disabled...my Nokia n95 allows wifi without a sim, but a newer device didn't when the sim was removed...it might be set to limit what you can do without a sim...
The old sim will now be deactivated since the new one will have your details on it.

Nah it packed up a couple of months ago in fact. Common fault on those handsets it seems.
I bodged a microsim to normal sim adapter and put the new sim back in, as suggested. Downloaded SMS backup and angry birds, have given it to my daughter...
It sounds like you're sorted but if installing apps was all you wanted to do, you can do that for most app just by taking a back up (with one of the various app backup apps) on your new phone and then just transferring it (by usb) to your old phone and installing that way.
Why download sms back up when its not on wifi or network?
I had loads of texts on there that I wanted to keep, for various reasons. The conversations I had with my dodgy mobile mechanic, for starters.
The two apps I wanted were Angry Birds, so my daughter would stop pestering me for my new phone, and the SMS backup one as above.
misread... 😳
