A group of us are going to do the Cairngorm loop in October. Â There is a GPX map available for this route, can someone tell me what Android app/ software is the best free idiot proof method of using/ following a GPX map?
I already have Strava, not sure if this can be used?
Thanks.
Komoot has a facility to import GPX files.
Can also get a region of maps free.
Assuming you're walking, idiot proof would be a map and compass, with a handheld GPS as backup (with spare AA batteries).
Cycling would suggest a Wahoo ELEMNT.
Using GPS will cut your phone's battery to a few hours. Less if it gets cold.
Having said all that, I use a Garmin GPSmap64 and 99% of the time my map stays in my bag.
Android apps I use for this are
OS mapfinder. It's brilliant, if a little expensive compared to others for the mapping. I'm committed to it now. You can import GPX into it easily.
GPX viewer is very good. The offline maps work well. But if your used to OS take some getting used to.
