Ahh, the simple joy of having a separate volume slider for Ringtones and Notifications again.
It's fair made my day, so it has.
Exciting stuff.
The font on the pin number looks nicer when entering it...I'm similarly impressed!
Is it worth updating then? My pixel 6a isn't going to burst into flames?
My Dexcom cgm (blood glucose monitor) app is not yet compatible with Android 14, so, I need to turn off the os auto update on my Pixel 6.
Can anyone give this numpty a clue how to do that, please?
@chipster - go to the app in the app store, click the "..." in the top-right corner and untick "Enable auto-update".
@pandhandj - to be honest I've not noticed any no major changes some nice little tweaks. My Pixel 6 Pro and Mrs K's Pixel 6a have both surviverd the update.
CamAPS FX seems to be working, although it does seem to be losing connection with my Dexcom transmitter...reconnects in 10 minutes or so. Mildly annoying but that isn't the Dexcom G6 app...
I only updated my Pixel 6 2 days ago.
Ooh, the rush of adrenaline from an Android update.
Will it have messed everything up?
Only the truly brave pioneers of our time will hit that update button first.
Thanks for that, just checked and saw 'update available' in the system menu. I selected it and it's currently downloading (very slowly over shonky wifi in a holiday cottage). How do I set my phone to auto update for system updates like this? Google Pixel 7a.
I'll have to wait till Samsung do their update for my S23 Ultra
I'm not sure system updates can be auto-updated...I think those are manual action.
@frogstomp & Dick, it's the Dexcom app that's warning me not to update to Android 14, as the app isn't yet compatible.

As far as I am aware you cant. It will just give notifications saying its available.
OK, thanks.
@chipster, yeah, got that, but everything else seems to have gone ok for me, but I'm using CamAPS FX instead of Dexcom app.
@Dick, looks like that's a whole other thread. 🤔
dissonance

It's phone specific. On my phone you go into the System Update checker app, then go to the three dots at the top right and click "Auto Update".
It's often also available under Developer Options if you enable that but tapping the build number repeatedly (10 ish times)
Ooh.
"Preparing system update... "
Cheers.
hmm - not sure if it's something I did but half my app icons are now monochrome...and I don't like it. Can't work out why some are and some aren't - Garmin connect is in colour, strava is not.
Christ, it takes a while. It's been like an hour and counting.
My Pixel 6a has not yet exploded. But I do now have a nice cartoony clock to go with my Mint Sauce wallpaper.
Health Connect still doesn't link with Garmin though. But I suspect that is more a Garmin thing.

Thats probably "themed icons".
Go to wallpaper and style => home screen tab and switch it off
I updated my Pixel 6a yesterday (or should I say it auto-updated...) and it completely factory reset my phone. It has come back on with Android 14 but had to re-download and log into all of my apps etc, and have lost a ton of photos.
Moral of the tale, back things up frequently.
Mine (Pixel 4a) auto-updated yesterday, no issues at all.
Hadn't noticed the separate sliders for volume and ringtone!

Brilliant - thanks. No idea how that got turned on during the update.
crazy-legs

5g version?
Mine apparently isn't getting it (standard 4a), but not really surprised given that its 3 and a bit years old.
I'm sure mine has auto-installed system updates in the past, to my surprise.
When I say I'm sure...
Mine took about 2 hours to do the actual update then another hour to do the app updates - almost all Google updates. The WiFi connection wasn't great and it took about 30 mins to download the Gig update, then 90 minutes to install and update.
