they had an interview with someone on the Radio - biggest problem is that they don't get repaired and then fill with water so you've no idea as a driver/pedestrian/cyclist if the 'puddle' you are approaching is 2cm deep or 2m.

I use to work a lot in Naples, which had a (correct) reputation for having bad roads. But it was only after rain when they filled with muddy water that you realised how bad it was because you had no idea whether it was just a puddle or a great hole.
