In my experience the police frequently park where they shouldn’t. Their driving also leaves a lot to be desired.
That clamper is a proper knob.
About as convincing as those Facebook competitions where you can win a camper van they can’t sell because it’s got a scratch on it.

Yep.
A parking faux pas? I remember these days back in Weymouth and watching cars being nerfed out of the way for the train...
I can believe thats real tbh.
While having a really bad case of being a parking warden, is the parking warden wrong?
"im just nipping in to get some food"
you and everyone else who gets clamped for parking on the double yellows.
I think if the copper had a leg to stand on he wouldve cited him why he was allowed to park there and offered to nick him, but he didnt.
I think its pretty funny. suck it up mr Police man, and make an embarassing call to your boss.
I sometimes wonder whether im sad enough to start a twitter account: @youreleavingthatthereareyou?
but im not.
How does it finish? I can't be arsed to listen to a fake shouty man for more than a few seconds. Does it have a punchline?

That's mad on a number of levels. Different times.
Great nostalgia trip spotting all the cars. Thanks for posting.

Yep. How many traffic wardens carry a clamp around with them 🙄
Picking the daughter up from school at the moment and the parking is always a joy to to behold
🤣
Pretty sure emergency services can all park on double yellows if on duty, regardless if he's getting his lunch or not.

Really? The law appears to contradict this, unless the vehicle is being used to attend to an emergency. And if he's getting his lunch, is he technically on duty?
Let's not forget the copper may well have been on duty for 10 hours with no break for food that might have been his only chance.
Regardless, the law still applies.

Agreed. How things change. Me and 4 other blokes tried to bounce a new Polo blocking a lane out of the way the other night. Couldn't shift it, and the bodywork was bending alarmingly.

Let's not forget the copper may well have not signed off for lunch with control and is banking on another job not coming in between parking and getting his £3.50 meal deal, eating it, and then signing off for his half hour lunch, then if something does kick off claiming his £20 for the interrupted lunch 😉
That’s mad on a number of levels. Different times.
I remember 20 years before that video putting pennies in the track to be flattened by the trains...
Regardless, the law still applies.
Nope. It’s not that simple.

Brilliant film, that! I used to holiday at a caravan site at Bowleaze Cove late 60’s, and I don’t recall the railway line running through like that, more’s the pity. Watching the passengers with their heads out of the windows passing through the boatyard, it’s a good thing none of the boats had a bowsprit, it could have had someone’s eye out!
Polo’s are a lot bigger and heavier than they used to be, but there’s a lot more plastic used in the bodywork, and aluminium as well - I use magnets to hold decals in place, and it’s surprising how much of a modern car a magnet won’t stick to any more; not just bumpers, tailgates and bonnets as well as some door trim.
Nope. It’s not that simple.
Please explain.

That is so surreal! What is the train doing in the middle of the town?!? I feel like I'm watching Rick and Morty interdimensional cable lol
Please explain.
Sorry I’ve caused confusion. If on duty and responding to a call they can park on double yellow lines. If popping for their lunch then yes they’re still on duty, however not responding to a call. They then need to stick to the parking laws. However, most traffic wardens, proper ones not private ones, will not use discretion. As long they’re not causing an obstruction.

So, basically exactly what I said earlier. Thanks for clarifying.
The double yellow lines are there by virtue of a traffic regulation order. To know if the copper can park there, you'd need to look at the articles and exemptions within that traffic regulation order.
When I used to be involved in them, there were three levels for emergency vehicles. Responding to an emergency, non emergency and on duty.
Found out that it was at our discretion which we included as there was no fixed policy so I only ever included emergency in the exemptions to mine.
So, if he was in the wards I used to look after, then grabbing lunch isn't an emergency so he can't part on the double yellows. Find a parking space like everyone else.
Shame the CEO didn't keep his cool. Would have been a far sweeter "win" for him if he had.
Even if he's not allowed to park there, it's surely illegal to clamp an emergency services vehicle?
(Though I'm with others who think the whole thing was staged.)
Saw this the other day.
Copper just chancing it like quite a few folk do. Traffic warden clamping the police van is certainly legit. But his manner is too shouty and confrontational. Surprised the copper didn't try and charge the warden with preach of the peace because of his shouting. Funny how the locals sided with the police though.

Certain trains would come into Weymouth Station, reverse out of the station, stop and then use the points to go the next 3/4 mile through town to the ferry terminal at the end of the harbour by the theatre. There the boat cruise passengers would disembark and get their boat.
Totally anarchic and very British.
The tracks were still there but unused until last year when they got pulled out by the council after a long campaign to keep them. As a cyclist I was in two minds but rather than pull them up I'd have preferred they filled the slot in with tarmac so we could see them.
So, basically exactly what I said earlier. Thanks for clarifying.
Nkt quite but you weren’t far off.
A ticket is one thing clamping is just stupid, I mean for a start the vehicle can’t be moved until it’s removed. Then yes of course it’s a police vehicle. It does look a bit suspicious but the shouty guy seems quite legit.

You couldn't immediately tell if this warden was working for the council, or for a private firm. If a private firm, its all about getting the money off them and no delays. Money first, then clamp gets removed. Otherwise i would think a simple ticket would have been sufficient.
Definitely wasn’t council traffic warden, a private one on a power trip.

Private firms cannot lawfully clamp unless they are working on behalf of the council (or other authorities such as the police). If it's private land then clamping is a criminal offence.
Clamping iz illegal in Scotland.
That video is fake im sure

WTF. Discretion as in, thats a police car, so i had better not deal with them in exactly the same way i deal wit anybody else "popping in to get some food"?
Crikey i cant believe im siding with the warden here! Hes clearly had a bad run in with the police anda chip on his shoulder cause he says something about "you can give me a ticket but i cant give you one" (or something like that)

Interesting point. He does have the air of a private cowboy about him, so maybe he did get nicked for it in the end.
If he was above board, then as above the logical move would be to issue the ticket:
Photo of the van in the post to the office, and a sticker on the windscreen, i doubt they would have much of a leg to stand on.

For sure, and thats probably how he acts with members of the public. He's obviously the angry, shouty bullying type, or he wouldn't have had the audacity to scream loudly at a policeman.
We can only hope the cops have taken his number and are now looking to pull him for every infraction, however minor.
fake news unfortunately,
https://www.reuters.com/article/factcheck-traffic-argument-idUSL1N30D0YB
even if the copper was in the wrong with that guys attitude and the assembling noob mob would give him ground for breach of the peace and hampering an emergency vehicle
good to see Ronnie pickering doing such a good job in the community
