'It'll take me 5 minutes to count out this twenty quid, back after the break'

I will miss his financial advice, which has held me in good stead.

"stay out of the black and in the red, nothing in this game for two in a bed"

A sad day for llamas everywhere

I'm rather glad my old Nan passed away this time last week.

With a fantastic knock of 95, I don't think she deserved too have to share it with today's dearly departed.

RIP all

Let's see what he could have won.

Nobody remembers CS Lewis and Aldous Huxley's deaths on the same day Kennedy was shot, or Farrah Fawcett on the day Michael Jackson died.  Let alone Princess Di and Mother Theresa, or Elvis and Groucho Marx.  I hope Jim's doesn't go the same way.

And poor Joe Strummer died on the same day as all of them.

But is it important that people remember your death day? You get the headlines when it happens, sure, but you're dead. Give it a little time and they're all equally dead and it doesn't matter much when it happened.

He was fired from the BBC for calling someone a rather unsavoury name live on air...😖

Four back-to-back episodes on Freeview Ch 46 (Challenge) tonight, but then surely you all knew that anyway.

Some cracking hair-dos and ace Argos catalogue prizes at https://flashbak.com/bullseye-contestants-who-played-a-bit-of-bully-13996/

Enough to forget what the guy's surname was, for a start.

I just noticed that, wherever mine's set up for, Jim Bowen's trending on Twitter. Stephen Hawking isn't.

Says a lot about Twitter, that does.

His daughter was at Uni at the same time as me and was friend of a friend. Just supposing she's into MTB'ing now, sorry for your loss Sue.

He visited one time and did Bullseye live for DUCK (Durham Univ Charity weeK) - with a modified line in jokes for an inebriated student audience. I'll get flamed here, because it was slightly on the blue side and nowadays might cross the line into dangerous (sexist, potentially) areas - but it was bloody funny and he had a comeback for any heckle that anyone threw him.

RIP Jim, Sunday teatime and Van Mildert legend.

From Scuttler's link. More hair than face. Where's Jamie, can he photoshop that onto the Guardian holiday shorts guy?

Well on STW at least, thanks to this post, he is at least being remembered equally with Prof Hawkins (22 posts each)

Is 2018 the new 2016?!?!

When Bowie et al were checking out, people said god was creating a dead rock stars supergroup.  I'd love to see what sort of band requires Jim Bowen, Stephen Hawking and Ken Dodd.

Hawking on vocals maybe with a couple of Speak 'n' Spell backing singers, Bowen on his signature Bendy Bass, and Doddy looks more like a drummer than Animal from the Muppets does so he's surely a shoe-in. All we need now is an outrageous, politically incorrect lead guitarist... how's Prince Philip looking these days?

It was a great programme - but the most exciting element was alway going to be how utterly inappropriate the big prize was going to be. Cars - sort of fine. Caravan... a lot of people could make absolutely no use of a caravan.

My favourite for that though as 321. One episode the contestants won a conservatory. "But we live in a 3rd floor flat".

@ theotherjonv - Looks as though you have inadvertently stumbled upon evidence of time travel or the elixir of life, either way............

Makes you think.

From Jim'll Paint It

"Gutted for the loss of both Stephen Hawking and Jim Bowen. A sad day indeed for the twin worlds of astrophysics and darts-themed gameshows."

And a rerun of a 2013 Thelma and Louise style speedboat painting

More here for the uninitiated -

Jim Bowen's nephew was on H wing in the prison I worked in.

Decent enough chap, never any bother.

Also, most contestants were mates- how would they split the prizes is it was for example, a car?
