Browsing the channels the other night and ended up on c5 which is never my go to channel and got totally sucked into a documentary about the Mayans. Absolutely fascinating what they believed and how they built their temples to align with stars/planets and what they saw as the underworld (network of underwater caves) and tied in with that amazing cave diving program a few weeks back which also captivated me. Then i ended up watching a programme about the romans and it got me wondering as my historical knowledge is terrible how these 2 civilizations compared in a time line and they overlapped a lot to my surprise.
Anyway it got me thinking i really need to read/watch more about ancient history and then i remembered a book i started reading as a young teen that was a big fat fiction novel about the ancient history of Britain i think... I seem to remember not finishing it but could be mistaken anyway i think it had a single word title begining with S and maybe a...counting on STW to help me here!
I think I'm drawn to this topic just now as it makes me feel better about the human race and how we may be totally ****ing things up but that one day we will just be another of those ancient civilizations that thought they knew everything and died out. Will someone be watching a documentary about us in a 1000 years?!

The way we are going we'll be the final human civilisation, not an ancient one as we won't have anything left for any other humans. We are entirely focused on destroying everything due to greed.

Listen to mike Duncan history of rome if you don't like reading. Its highly recommended. Then when this ends with the split between West and East you can listen to the history of the Byzantium empire by Robin pierson. Also available for free from their websites if you don't have Spotify or iTunes etc.

Here’s a show for you… The History of Rome
https://open.spotify.com/show/6wiEd40oPbQ9UK1rSpIy8I?si=qwt6h8UGR2-l_j841PR-Dw

Here’s a show for you… Episode 1 - An Introduction episode of The History of Byzantium

https://open.spotify.com/episode/3k0zPZxVvVNKZ1EDz5jSHy?si=Rod_H4YfQaCCAhk85xbChA

They both start out as novices but get better quickly and soon invest in better equipment after 5 episodes or so.

History is just a lie they sell you in school, we're actually being bred for food by aliens. The novel was Silmarillion.

One feature of most civilisations has been eschatology (as demonstrated earlier in this thread). I wonder why humans always need to think that we are approaching our extinction?
