I'm a long way off being anal about lawn stripes as the top half of the rear garden, which was fenced off for the dogs to use ) has been pretty much neglected. I've now taken the fence away, put the mower over the grass, weeds nettles etc. and would now like to bring it back to a decent lawn. What should I be spraying, doing etc. to achieve a green lawn loveliness?
Close cut it a couple of times to rip out as much of the weeds as possible. Give it a week to recover. Weed and feed and leave another few days before cutting.
Depending how patchy it is, you might need to over sow and you might need some topsoil for this too.
Take out the thatch at the end of the growing season.
mmmm....thatch
Give a dose of Feed, weed and moss killer (25kg bag costs £20 in Homebase etc). Then, once the moss, weeds etc are dead, mow and then scarify a few times to rake out all the dead thatch. Over seed any bare patched. Then keep is mowed well and treat every couple of months with Feed, weed & moss killer.
Title of the week.
I just came for the title 😳
i'm disappointed with the topic 🙁
I feel cheated
Masking tape before bleaching. All the rage is Essex apparently.
ANAL STRIPES
Well. I have finally found my gay porn star name.
Now I have your attention ....
DON'T cut the lawn super short!
Do a spray with verdone, VERY carefully so you don't overdose patches. 2 weeks later just cut as normal at a medium height. Another couple weeks later apply evergreen 4 in 1 or a basic nitrogen feed. Then just mow fortnightly, never too short.
Do I have to keep the dogs off the grass?
Ah, you've got dogs. I don't know anyone with dogs and a nice lawn. Move on, life's too short to try and achieve the impossible! I've cared for probably 200 different lawns over the past 7 years and this is the case without exception.
Shave stripes into the dog?
Title of the week.
Promised so much, delivered so .... lawn-related.
🙂
Keep plugging away at it, and only use rainwater from a butt. Soon your lawn will be a glory, wholly envied by your neighbours. If they get cheeky just put them to the bottom of your invites for your next party.
Good timing, im in the position where the lawn is a mass of daisies and buttercups. We moved in end of august last year, so are only now getting the garden sorted.
Is it worth just digging the daisies out first and then fill the holes with soil and re-seed? Or is it better just to weed, seed and feed?
Still waiting for pictures that represent the title

Sounds nice, why not leave it as it is? I genuinely do not understand why people like a bland desert of grass to look at. Is it just to impress the neighbours and in-laws? This is an MTB site, surely we appreciate the outdoors more than the average person, why not leave it a bit more natural?
I gave up being too bothered, grass looks yellow in summer, whereas the stack of clover I have now looks green all year around.
Which is nice.
We play spot the flower, daisys (kids love to make chains), dandelions, buttercups, clover, some little red fellas (scarlet pimpernel?), fairyflax (moshi monster flowers according to the kids) and occasional others too.

Mainly because its very patchy where the daisies are slowly taking over. Dont get me wrong I like flowers etc, but I'd like the lawn to be mostly grass.
I live virtually in the countryside anyway, so if want to see wild flowers we can just go for a walk.

Please don't dig up individual daisies! Spray the lawn with verdone, then just cut it as normal. Maybe 4 weeks later apply a general feed (granular) and water it in.
