In Forfar this lunchtime feeling peckish, I did what every right minded soul does and got myself a Bridie. It in fact wasn’t an ingin ane but plain steak. Rushing to another appointment I foolishly didn’t wait til I was back at the office. Result was me looking like a slitter with juice/ fat all down my nice rab down jacket.
question , and I know it’s probably been done before but Nikwax or Grangers. And I do have some Techwash left, will this do or should I get proper down wash?
If it's properly nasty and greasy (yum) and has got through to the filling I would consider getting it professionally cleaned.
I've used the Grangers Down kit with some success. It comes with spikey balls for the tumble dryer.

It's a Dundee and Angus phrase, relating to asking for a second bridie, after acquiring your all-meat one, the second one being "An onion one as well". Less meat, more onions than the standard bridie.
For anyone who doesn't know what a bridie is, it's a bit like a cornish pastie, but made with flaky pastry instead of shortcrust and tends to have less veg, more meat, wetter gravy, plus a lot of grease and salt. Well, this is Scotland after all...
The best way to get food grease out of clothing is washing up liquid. I am not sure if that will have an adverse effect on a down jacket (probably not) but plain soap also works very well and that's fine for outdoor gear.

I'm only about 10 miles from Forfar, I'm definitely a pie man, but think the bridies are a bit over rated really.
I'd probably just lick and suck the jacket clean. Well I say probably, I would, as I've done it before with a particularly technical steak and gravy pie wrangling session.

Only twice in my life has food properly damaged me. First one was a bucket of mouille et frites. The other was smokies poached in cream. Even thinking about mussels makes me feel dodgy to this day.
The smokies brought on the worst indigestion ever, so much so that taking whilst my son to the GP for his jabs they felt compelled to deal with me too. The reflux lasted for months and months but boy was it worth it. Just pure creamy, smokey yummyness.
I have just Nikwax Techwashed an unknown oily food stain on a synthetic insulated jacket.... and it did nothing. All the stain is still there. Obviously the Techwash stuff is kind to outdoor gear, but doesn't shift oily stains.
A Forfar Bridie sounds good. Well now I know about it I feel like it needs trying.

When I did LEJOG the organisers were trying to source local delicacies for our snack/lunch stops. For some reason we ended up with Forfar Bridies for "elevenses" in Aberfeldy.
