Evening,
Ms Christ and I are thinking of heading to Amsterdam this half term with our kids (2, 4 & 6 years old). Be nice to have a wander round, take in some museums, do a half day ride in the sticks and generally take it easy in a park/playground
Anyone got any experiences or recommendations on the above or where to stay ? As in what part of the city/suburbs - will use air bnb as opposed to a hotel.
Any help would be very welcome:)
Christian
Just returned yesterday, ours are 9 and 11 and we cycled via ferry from Newcastle to a holiday park near Halfweg 2 stops on the train from Amsterdam central. Would definitely recommend the NEMO science museum- loads of interactive stuff to do, lovely cafe on the roof (which you can go to for free by a lift from the main entrance, with views over the city. The place we stayed was Droomeparken spaarnewoude, Here. Indoor pool, playground, nice spot, under flight path for schipol though so noisy in the daytime.
Lunch at Van Kerkwijk. You can thank me later!
2nd the NEMO museum, was there few weeks ago with our then 6 week old while wife was at a conference - not sure how much he took in 🙂
Restaurant up top was very nice, ground floor do regular demonstration, in English too - can watch from any of the floors. Highly recommend it.
Science museum, modern art gallery, boat tour. Lots of big free parks as well for kids to run and climb in.
Thanks NEMO sounds great. Will check out lunch suggestion from CFH.
Worth considering CentreParc De Eemhof if you have young kids... we've visited 3 times now as its a nice park and the kids love the Aquamundo. You can do the park & ride into Amsterdam which isn't far away. To be honest, a day visiting the centre of Amsterdam was enough for us on our visits and we enjoyed cycling/driving out to the towns surrounding the park the rest of the days
nuke, that looks pretty good, we were at Duinrell this year for a week, a big part of it for me was the amount of really good places to cycle to within an hour, what places locally were good?.
Get a museum pass, there are dozens of really lovely quirky small museums (houses) in walking distance of each other plus the Rijk and others mentioned.
Personally I would git the hermitage a miss, could not have been more disappointed with the place
