last time we went we stayed just out of town at Loosdrecht. Lovely lakes to cycle around (or sail on!), and about 10 min away on train

We (2 adults, 2 kids) stopped there for a night before getting the ferry out last summer and just got a hotel at the airport and gor the train into Amsterdam.

Crown plaza is only a 10 minute walk from a train station.

Obvs if you're staying for a while and want nice centre hotel the above is useless info......... but the trains are great!

we stayed at the Doubletree which is about 5 minutes from the station and opposite what must be the biggest Chinese restaurant in the world - outside China.

Handy for the museums in the east dock, but a bit of a walk out to the Van Gogh and Rijksmuseum

Try some towns and cities around Amsterdam. I'd recommend Haarlem, it's only 15 / 20mins from Amsterdam by train and probably not much more by bike 😀

We stay at center parcs de eemhof...stayed 3 times now. Then we do the park & ride into Amsterdam; half hour drive then train in for very little money. Center parcs in Europe are still way cheaper than uk ones even with the sliding £

I lived there for 4 years. If you don't mind being 15 minutes by tram from the centre, try Buitenveldert and the area surrounding it. There's a Novotel near to the RAI exhibition centre and you can get the number 4 tram, or the metro straight into the centre from there pretty quickly. Not the prettiest part of the city, but it's probably not booked up.
