Just wondering why have Americans been selected to hold the Torch
when the games are held by us, has I have not seen this done by
any other country.

I know a lot have done good charitable works if thats the case but i
feel thats irrelevant here

Whats your views on this one!

Ooh! Don't complain about the games, put on a happy face. Everything is fine, everyone is lovely. You will love the games. Dissent is not sanctioned by the sponsors. Did you just use the O word without official permission?

Our local TV news made a passing reference to this - but about Germans instead of yanks. It went along the lines of :-

"day two of the torch going through south Hampshire and Sussex and the Germanic theme continued - sadly the official torch website does not give the back story as to who these Germans are and why they were chosen but 42 of them have carried the torch on our street over the past couple of days. A quick search of German websites however shows they are connected to one of the official sponsor companies"

So why are these dirty foreigners involved in our nazi inspired torch celebrations - basically money.

It's all about political correctness with a strong dose sponsors muscle in while suckers keep sucking up.

I bet they are going to say that Ouilympigs are for the world and we are a big family so try to include everyone. Bloody spin ...

Go away ... the games should be on telly and not suppose to be here.

Why is anybody carrying the torch? - seems like a complete waste of time to me and why would anybody go and watch it?

Because the Olympic torch bearer waves at the crowds and it gives you the opportunity to wave back at him/her.

A special moment to treasure for the rest of your life.

I know that we like to deny it and play it down.. but in other countries I expect it's completely natural for the commentators to say -

'and there are the American athletes, displaying for us, the alliance of the great old empirical dinosaur, and the new laser guided protege, cosy bedfellows. The UK and the US of course, still having very strong economical and strategic military links, despite the previous administration's war on terror turning into such a comedy of errors.. '

connected to one of the official sponsor companies

And there it is. lets face it, yes some of the unwashed will get a go, but unless there is some sort of corporate backing then most folks aren't going to get a look in, apart from Billy Mitchell, but he's not really real

Edit: a wife I know's mother ran with the torch, she just happens to work for Sainsbury's, the official sponsor of the paralympics
