Not fussed about parcel delivery. Mainly looking at net flicks. A quick browse doesn't look like actually that much is free? And of some of the boxed sets I looked at not all of the series are available...is that right?
Things I'd like to watch, sopranos, doesn't seem to be prime, walking dead, only series 1-4, game of thrones doesn't seem to be on there?
Is this user error? I thought it was supposed to be comprehensive?
We use it a lot, but that is because we live in the middle of the Cairngorms and the delivery service is very useful. If this were not something of relevance, as in your case, then I would certainly cancel my subscription. Yes, there are a few good box sets and films available, but not to the value of the annual subscription, IMHO.

I'd agree with that - the delivery is great (if you buy a lot from Amazon.. great for the lultitude of kids birthday parties) but always saw the streaming as a bonus.. like Netflix I found it a bit easy to exhaust what I wanted to watch in a few weeks, then it's only someting new of interest appearing every couple of months or so.
Not very much stuff on Prime Video, mostly old stuff to temp you to pay for newer series.
For what you get it's better value than most...

• TV Stuff - this is only going to increase. Their taking on of Clarkson shows their intent in this area.
• Amazon Music - bonus if you don't use spotify.
• Unlimited photo back-up.
If you are the sort who binges on box-sets it may be a bit limited though. We can barely keep pace with stuff we record of normal TV, so it's fine for us as we only watch the odd movie.
Netflix is an extra sub on Prime, not included in Prime - it's just that you can play it through the FireTv kit.
Yep unfortunately not all series are available on for all shows on Prime. Some of the newer series require you to either rent or buy them rather than get them free as part of Prime.
It gets really annoying when the first two series are on Prime but the third is not!!! Really annoys me when I'm engrossed into a show and I can't watch to completion 👿
If you are only using it for the video streaming rather than all the other benefits then it's hard for me to recommend it for you. But I find there is plenty to watch for me and I use some of the other benefits too so find it worthwhile.
We've had it for about a year. It's good value for us, with a small baby we've got our money's worth out the delivery side of it. The Prime Video and Prime Music are OK but not great in themselves but very good value along side the delivery.

I got Prime as a student,which is well worth it. Not sure about full price.
Netflix is better imho, but that depends on what you prefer to watch. Prime is clearly set up to get you to buy the later series once you've watched a free one.

I think this is key for my useage. There are better dedicated services available but they cost too much for my usage. Prime manages to package up a lot of these services into one good (not great) package at an affordable price.

"The Man In the High Castle" is worth a watch if you have Prime!
Signed up for Xmas, got into a few series only to find them removed from Prime on the 1st Jan. This happens frequently with no easy way to identify when stuff will be removed. It will come back at some point but its irritating.
Dont forget the kindle library included with prime. That alone almost covers the yearly cost for the amount of books my GF gets through in a year.
Having used both several times I would say in terms of entertainment, Netflix is superior. I might go so far as to say vastly superior.
IIRC correctly Netflix can be subscribed/unsubscribed at will for no cost whereas Prime has you signed up for a year. Correct?
Neither service would have enough content (I like) to encourage me to subscribe for a full year.

I mainly have Prime for the free next day delivery as I work away a lot and it's nice to not have to worry about not being in.
While I'm away there is usually something I'd like to watch on the video side, listen on the music or watch on my kindle and this is getting better IMO with the move to making their own - Mr Robot was very good.
Just for video, or music I wouldn't bother but it helps justify the free delivery for me.
We got the free trial at the end of the summer, and have kept it on. It's almost worth it for the free delivery, and at least stops you looking for extras to hit the £20 free delivery limit if not on Prime.
Being able to watch the full unedited version of Series 3 of Ripper Street was great, and I loved Mr Robot and The Man In The High Castle. I fairly quickly got through the free films that I was interested in (post-snip recovery), and they don't seem to add new ones very frequently.
I was expecting the film/TV to be like Spotify, with free full versions of everything, so was a little disappointed.
Have you all spotted the credit you get for not opting for the free next day delivery? Stuff generally arrived the next day anyway and you get £1 Amazon credit for film rentals.purchases and app/Kindle purchases.

I tried one of the radio stations yesterday and the sound quality didn't seem very good - whereas playing some of the CDs I have bought from Amazon, and are therefore also available through prime, were OK.
We've had Prime for a couple of years and TBH the only thing we use at the moment is the next day delivery (which I like a lot).
We also have Netflix and Spotify. Spotify is used constantly but only two of the girls watch Netflix so I've just cancelled it for now - maybe it will stop them being up in their bedrooms so much! We use Genesis a lot anyway so that can replace Netflix. I'll point them at the Prime Video.

None of these streaming services are, or try to be. Except for things that they commissioned and own (eg. House of Cards on Netflix), they have to licence content to show on there. That's usually for a year and when it expires it'll sometimes not get renewed for another year.
At least Amazon are better at telling customers when things are disappearing.
I've got prime ATM .....I love it....the wife thinks it's ok ...but want to get rid of it when the trail runs out....
But we also have virgin media...and got a letter last week saying it's going up £5 a month.....well i think cut down the virgin and then the prime will be paid for...free....sorta...ha ha ha

For the delivery options alone, it's not worth it either. It used to be when it was half the price, but then they whacked it up then you really need to make use of the streaming and music services for it to pay for itself.
What I like about Amazon's Instant Video stuff, regardless of Prime, is you can see what's available easily. You can't on Netflix. You have to subscribe with Netflix to then decide if you want it. Sure there's a trial but it's a hook and hassle to quit.
Prime - Like Netflix, they won't have everything inclusive. It's a limited selection but then it's a bit like the old days of going to the local video rental shop and picking from what they have.

Quality - HD stuff generally is pretty good. SD stuff however can be a bit rubbish, especially old TV shows and films. Some old classic sci-fi films were terrible. They look like they're taken off VHS!
The music service is new and a bonus. It's not Spotify, but it does give you some inclusive stuff of interest. I've not really looked into it much though.

Handy as £1 gets you a 99p rental for some stuff not on Prime.
Oh, and Amazon app on Samsung's Smart TV is sh!te. Has big problems with audio drop outs, and it's a long standing well known issue on their forums with no sign of a fix. Suspiciously seems like a way of getting you to buy a Fire TV stick 😉

This is very annoying and happens quite a bit. Often a series will be dropped from Netflix then pop up on prime, and vice versa.
Find the streaming from Prime nowhere near as good as Netflix. Often find the audio is choppy and out of sync. They seem to know this is an issue as I've been sent emails asking for feedback on streaming quality and this is one of about 5 reasons to choose from if you say it was poor.

odd, I can't think of a single issue I've had with it on the Samsung app. Had a few with Netflix but Prime has been faultless for me

you'll have exhausted everything you want to watch within the month. Purely on video, Netflix is better than Prime and doesn't tie you in for paying annually. I pay for Netflix for about 3 months of the year catch up with anything that looks interesting then suspend the account again until there's another worthwhile batch of new stuff.

I've recently got it and like it. I have a hour in each direction train commute and I download films and tv to watch. Nice way to chill out after work.
Some of the TV series are excellent. The films are older, but I'm currently catching up on films I missed when they were new out.
Music is old compared to Spotify, but it's great because it's like finding a great cd collection that you haven't listened to for years.
Free post is a bonus. Last time I ordered I didn't need next day delivery so clicked standard free and they credited my account with £1 to use against non-Prime content. Not sure if this happens all the time but nice touch.
For streaming alone I wouldn't stick with it. I'm 3 weeks into the 1 month trial but will cancel at the end.
I have been able to smash through Man in the high castle, Mr Robot, and Bosch for free though so not all bad.
Netflix has some decent TV shows. Lots of kids shows too which is very handy as Netflix is preloaded on the BT TV box (Amazon prime is not available through BT TV).
Netflix is streaming only, which is a bummer when you're travelling. However you can cast it from Chromecast.
Amazon prime allows for some of its movies and TV shows to be downloaded.
Decent Amazon prime shows: Man in the highcastle, Hand of god for both husband and wife! On the geekier side, for me, Badlands, Arrow (when there's nothing else on)
netflix: sons of anarchy, the bridge, jessica jones, daredevil, marco polo, dexter, californication (awesome), making a murderer, various kung fu shows!Gothham, Fargo s1, breaking bad, prison break (stop watching at S3)
The Samsung Smart TV issue relates to Dolby Digital over HDMI. I can work around it by changing the digital audio out on the TV to PCM, but then I only get stereo. The amp can do ProLogic surround on it, but it's not as good as the DD audio. It's a known issue with the Amazon app apparently.
Other apps on the TV like Plex are fine. Can even stream my lovely Despecialised edition of Star Wars complete with DTS HD-MA sound to the amp, all fine 😀
No support for Chromecast. If you try and cast from an android phone or tablet you'll either get a phone/tablet size picture on the telly or a big square one with large bits missing from the sides.
As above really, the video selection is not great, particularly for films IMO, and many TV series don't have all the seasons which can be a bit frustrating. Decent new things seem to be added only rarely. That said, I haven't run out of things to keep me going yet, and I do use Prime Music so I'm fairly happy for now, even though I rarely use the delivery side of it.
We have Netflix too and it suffers from many of the same issues. On video alone I'd say it edges Amazon, but then of course it doesn't have any of the other stuff.

It can be a bit picky on the browser that you use, I got best results from an up to date version of chrome. Prior to switching to chrome I was getting stuttering and poor image quality using safari.

Feeling like crap with a bad cold at the moment so watched the entire 1st series of Mr Robot yesterday and really enjoyed it. The Manin the High Castle (watched it before Xmas) was also very good. I wanted to take out Amazon prime myself as I do buy electrical stuff but the OH took it out instead, irritatingly as I now have to order stuff though her to get the next day postage and she can see I have been sat at home watching stuff all day as they ask her to review it.
It is handy, it's not cheap, but in all honesty the 2 series I have watched so far have been much more entertaining than anything I've watched on freeview in the last couple of years.
Oh and I am watching it on a Sony smart TV (not tried the samsung TV or bluray) on a pretty pish internet connection and it's been fine.
I've found it really good value .... Especially when I got it on an offer for £59!

Despite Lagertha's charms - just cancelled my Prime membership. Their delivery service has totally gone to shit. Items claimed to be delivered when they're not, items late, delivery drivers claiming to be on our street wanting detailed directions then not turning up.
Customer services not really interested - offered a month's free service.
It was good when I used to be reasonably confident things would turn up next day - now I'm never sure if they will turn up at all.

Hardly watch anything on Prime, though have used it for a few kids things. My own personal problem with it, is that while I didn't exclusively [i]not[/i] shop on Amazon previously, having bought prime (with a growing nipper and his ever changing needs, we do end up having to always be looking for something for him...not excessively, honest, but y'know, there's always something we need...), we do end up shopping more on Amazon than I'm comfortable with - in a kind of "well, we've paid for it..." way. We've not had any problems with deliveries - and we're lucky in that the bunch of neighbours at the top of our road are all happy to take stuff in for one another. Will I renew...dunno to be honest. I ought to spread my business around a bit more than I do.
The whole Prime delivery thing is reason enough for me. Too many companies are charging extra, taking much longer or not delivering at all to anywhere north of Perth.
And, as a result of this thread, I'm now doing the X Files again 😆
Must admit the delivery side of things does seem a bit hit and miss, so far nowt has arrived next day, unless the drivers are not leaving any cards. It is usually within 2-3 days.
It means I'm buying small things like dummies for the boy from amazon rather than having to remember to buy next time we are near a mothercare or boots. Useful but not sure worth the extra!
Found I can download the prime content so going to try that rather than streaming which isn't reliable enough for me whilst turboing (on the iPad using browser or app)

It used to be very reliable for me. Has totally gone to shit recently. Dunno if it's a new courier they are using or what.
I think all the local couriers know how to get to our house easily due to the amount of clothing orders my wife makes from various places, so maybe that is why I haven't had any issues.
I went with Prime for delivery originally because things towards Christmas would take a few days longer with the free options and I'm always a last minute bloke with Christmas shopping 😀 . Prime, order in the evening and it's there next day (for 'Prime' products that is, but those are the ones I go for anyway in that I know it's from Amazon or properly fulfilled by them not some pikey selling on Amazon).
Couriers seem to vary. Mostly I find my stuff is delivered by some scruffy guy in a car.

Prime has some great series - Halt and Catch Fire is a particular corker, even though it never gets a mention. The film selection is abysmal though, some right turkeys. The fact you can download to watch offline is very useful though, its about the only thing that lets down Netflix, which has a better overall spread, and if you like Marvel series it is of course the only place to go. For the £7 a month or so that they cost, theyre both worth the dough. Im seriously considering binning Sky and just watching them instead.
