I’ve googled it, I promise, but I’m still confused as there are conflicting answers and I know Amazon and Google we’re having a bit of willy-waving competition at one point.

Wifey wants Amazon Prime so she can stream The Good Wife cos Netflix have stopped showing it. Can I stream Prime through Chromecast or do I need a Firestick?

It works from our Mac Book and Windows 10 laptop using Google Chrome browser. It doesn’t however work from iPhone using Google Chrome

Edit: It can be a bit glitchy at times but I think that’s more Amazons fault than the interface

Only screen mirroring from android, can't remember what happens with a Chromebook.

Bit of a pain really.

Fire sticks are £10 off at the mo. I’d just get one. I have one and a Chromecast, and works well for all uses.

Amazon Prime is also now on Apple TV so we just use that instead.

Previously, it streamed ok to the chromecast stick in the back of the TV from either iPad or iPhone. Slightly glitchy here and there but not so much as to make it unusable. A nice feature of that was IMDB updates on the device screen as you’re watching the movie. So, almost instant answers to those “where have we seen him/her before moments” -
Just tap on the actors IMDB profile picture and it brings his or her bio up in IMDB.

I only use chrome off the phone for you tube, otherwise it’s just Amazon TV.

So you can cast your entire screen..which is a clunky way of doing it.
You can't just (As far as I've tried on android and ipad and PC) 'tell' the chromecast to play prime, like you can with youtube..

As per Jamie, jsut buy another firestick..
That's what I've done for the upstairs TV... Firestick also has a good spotify intercace, and you tube, so you don't really lose much

I've been casting the screen on my phone. Bit of a pain in the arse as the audio and video slowly go out of sync when watching a film. Need to briefly pause every 20 mins or so. TV only has 2 HDMI inputs too so changing between firestick and Chromecast would be a right pain!

Firestick can no longer do Youtube. I have both. What are they? 30 quid each?

What about Roku sticks? They’ll do Amazon/Netflix/YouTube/evryfink won’t they?

Unless it's back.

They've pulled the youtube app, but you can still use youtube through a web browser on the firestick. It's really not a big deal. Watched some of the CX worlds using youtube via the browser on the firestick the other day and it was fine. If you use the Firefox one it even starts up with a big youtube button. Easy.

So, looking at Fire Sticks on eBay, and a lot seem to come with Kodi installed. What’s that all about?

Kodi is a media player, amongst other things makes it easy to use your Fire with a media library if you have such a thing. In the context of an ebay offer it's probably stuffed with dodgy add ons for a bit of hooky streaming.

Why would you look on eBay when you can get direct from Amazon for £30?

I cannot even mirror my android mobile screen with Prime via Chromecast dongle....

It mirrors right up to the start of the movie.... Then as movie starts the screen goes black.

I assumed it to be deliberate due to the ongoing feud between Amazon and Google?

I (hardly ever) use the PS3 for Prime. I'd probably use it a lot more if they let me use my Chromecast, or put it on Sky. But as it is we very very rarely use it, and then forget about the things I'd want to watch on there.

I can't imagine I'm the only one, if they made it easier they'd probably get loads more viewers.

“Firestick can no longer do Youtube. ”

Google stopped access because Amazon stopped selling chromecasts - they then started selling them again and Google allowed reinstated youtube access.

I cannot even mirror my android mobile screen with Prime via Chromecast dongle….
I'll check that later.... was certainly working a couple of weeks ago.

This is all where the world is going mad. Having to have 3 or 4 devices plugged in the back of your TV is just stupid and daft, bad for the environment, and a complete ball ache

I can think of worse things for the environment. Like that desalination plant under pinning London's water supply.  (to deviate the topic slightly). Or people not turning off laptops overnight at work

Televisions come with multiple HDMI ports to do precisely that, to support multiple inputs. If you power them off the tv usb then you can instead worry about something more important like desalination plants, space rockets etc etc.
