Just bought a few bits and pieces on Amazon for my Wife's upcoming birthday; 3 come direct from Amazon and the 4th from a bookstore. My debit card is saved in my account and I've used it for years without issue.
I've just noticed that Amazon EU have debited 1p from my account, which I've never seen before. I'm aware that small transactions can sometimes be test transaction for scams and such (although the account is an Amazon one).
Subsequently AMZNMktplace took the full amount of the order, so I've overpaid by a penny (not in itself a big deal).
The only difference in this order is that Microsoft Edge (Windows) piped up that it's tracking the order.
Is this normal behaviour or should I be worried?
I have noticed an active card check (or something similar) a couple of times recently from Amazon, but it has always been for £0.00. May depend on your bank? If it is a check then the 1p will be refunded in a few days I think
Just contact Amazon customer support to be sure. In my experience Amazon are really easy to deal with and it will be simple to check with them.
i got scammed a few years ago (not through Amazon) and I had to fight my bank to get my money back, the first debit was a small test transaction to check my cards validity, then they used it fir 3k.

It is possible that a scammer has managed to spoof an Amazon account so that it looks like a genuine one on your statement however unlikely. I would just keep an eye on your online banking for a while for unexpected transactions as the scammers will generally do 1 or 2 test transactions (used to be for £1.99 or so, looks like a coffee or a choccy bar impulse purchase) and if they don't get flagged by the account owner they would then go for a few big transactions in a row. If your online banking allows you to (Nationwide does) you can click a box that will show you any pending transactions, could just be an error at Amazon's end where they initiated the purchase twice.
If you a have several items in one transaction and some are marketplace items the sum paid can be split or grouped in odd ways when you view the statement
but if the transactions don’t add up to the total at checkout there’s some sort of issue
if you go to ‘your orders’ there’s option to view / download invoices and or order details for each item and maybe that penny will show up for some reason
what Amazon is very good at hiding is any services you might have accidentally click to receive - if you accidentally click on something like an Amazon music trial that won’t show up in your order history and you typically don’t get confirm emails either. (And when that card expires they’ll happily start taking payments from a completely different account without any notifications too!) So try and check if that penny represents the start of a free trial of something (usually hidden as a ‘continue’ or ‘confirm’ button) and is setting up billing to commence a few months
I had this done to me once and a scammer then went full in buying vouchers and other stuff about 2k in total.
Amazon were really good as soon as contacted them I had a someone on the phone sorting it all out
Worth asking them just to be sure.
