A pack of 6 tomatoes in Morrisons in 68p.

Or, buy 3 packs for £2 - saving an incredible 4p.

Can anyone beat that? 😉

Years ago when cassette tapes were popular, Woolies were selling TDK C90s, a pack of 5 was £5.99, a pack of 3 was £2.49, it was a no brainer, buy 2x3 packs, save £1.01 and get a free blank tape.

Killing the music industry

That's a bit presumptious. He might have been pirating ZX Spectrum games too!

one glorious summer I lived next to a small sainsburys in taunton. I used to shop for my dinner 15 mins before closing time and pick up all the yellow sticker items.

for about three months, if you bought two of a reduced item that had a BOGOF offer, it would charge the reduced price for the first item and then take the full price off for the second item. you had to be carefull though not to end with a negative total, adding some full price items to bring yourself just up above zero....

My local ASDA was recently doing boxes of tissues for £1.50, or twin packs for £3.50.  Bargain!

Just checking the price of train tickets - I want a return ticket from Harrogate to Leeds, departing today and returning tomorrow.

2 singles will cost £17.

A return ticket will cost £96.

Where did you get that price from? I just tried to replicate it on Trainline (booking as a return journey) and it came up with £17 straight off.

This was on nationalrail.co.uk - to be fair the singles are highlighted but the return option is available for selection.

The only return you can get between Leeds and Harrogate is for same day travel  isn’t it?

Years ago Appletise did a promo where you got a voucher for a free bottle on each bottle.

At the time my confusion and sense of fair play prevented me making full use of it. But I did go into the shop a few times with the voucher off the bottle that i'd just got free on the bottle that I'd just got free with the voucher off the bottle

Etc

My best one was at Morrisons in Harrogate just before Le Tour Grand Depart - they had a huge order that wasn't collected for cases and cases of their (really very good) quarter pounder burgers and they were selling them off at something like 20p for a pack of four. I bought more than one pack.

I called in Game a few weeks ago to buy some Xbox One controller battery packs (£15).  Spotted a sticker on it saying "By a 2nd item and save 20%".  I'd been fancying a copy of Fifa* for a while and wasn't fussed about having the latest and greatest, so picked up 2015 or 2016 for £1.

So got the batteries packs and the game for £13.  Saved £2 and got a "free" game...

* The depreciation rate of FIFA console games is astronomical!!

Years ago when there was an open-air market in Malvern, the guy who sold towels and the like had them at £3 each or 3 for £10 😀

Waitrose had an offer on Walkers Sensations the other week - £2.09 for one packet or £2 for two.

Tesco bananas

In 1997, Tesco's offer of 25 clubcard points worth £1.25 for bananas costing £1.17 led one customer to buy nearly 1,000lbs of the fruit. But when Phil Calcott, a physicist, went back to the shop for more staff told him they would not take any more bulk orders. He made a profit of £25.12 on the bananas which he then gave away to passers-by.

Ah yes, the 'Banana Wars' of the 90s.

It was a bit daft really, I worked in Tesco after school, every few days one of the other big supermarkets would cut their price and Tesco would follow suit, I'm not sure if they ever paid you cash to take them away, but I'm pretty certain before it ended (and they moved onto Beans) they were completely free for a while.

A few months later they started selling Levi's Jeans for £20 a pair (they were technically 501s, but they weren't UK spec and a lot thinner than the ones you could buy on the High Street for £50) two things happened 1) Levi's sued Tesco for cheapening their brand, and lost and 2) most people said "it'll never catch on, no one wants to buy clothes in a supermarket! Tesco are now the UKs biggest clothing retailer.

The 'any 2 for £2' sort of makes sense though - I'm presuming here that there were other drinks in the offer that cost more than £1 though!

Now the person who bought 2 of those ones to save themselves money though...
