Because the new classifieds don't work at all in Firefox! I can't believe that they wouldn't have Beta tested it on all platforms on all browsers, surely...? All I get is a menu down the side, on which none of the buttons do anything, and no content!

Yeah, you are. I've had to switch to chrome, firefox basically won't run any more, authentication and certificate errors galore.

Its probably something to do with your adblocker - works fine on FF for me (when I disable ad blocker)

Recently switched away from chrome as fed up with the amount of tracking & RAM it uses

I'm using FF but not using the new classifieds.

That's a lot of help, eh?

FF user here, but never use the classifieds.
Using this site without ABP is like having unprotected sex with a prostitute.

If you're using an adblocker - in violation of the site T&Cs which you agreed to when you signed up - then the classifeds don't display correctly.

Given that you're a [P] subscriber you shouldn't be seeing ads anyway. Whitelist STW and it should work.

It's adblocker that's the problem. I've just switched mine off and the site looks like an Argos catalogue of crazeee gifs crossed with a pin ball machine. I also seem to get asked to agree to cookies every time I click on anything.

Either Safari or Chrome here.

Google Chrome is possibly the least safe of all the browsers out there! How it became so popular I don't know...

Despite being a Mac fan for more than a dozen years now, I've never got on with Safari for some strange reason! I think it was just too different when I swapped from Windows to Mac OS, and I could use Firefox cross platform and they were broadly the same...

If you’re using an adblocker – in violation of the site T&Cs which you agreed to when you signed up – then the classifeds don’t display correctly.

Will try whitelisting the site... Though...

Using this site without ABP is like having unprotected sex with a prostitute.

Sadly, he has a point!

This site is a prime example of why adblockers exist...

For balance I don't use FF or the classifieds

Using this site without ABP is like having unprotected sex with a prostitute.

Something you have to pay extra for?

Not quite sure how you come to that conclusion.

I'm working in security these days. The other day I was looking at a test "hostile" website. Chrome blocked the page and flashed up a big red page warning that the site was unsafe; Firefox did similar saying "according to Google this site is unsafe"; Edge went "here's your page" with precisely zero shits given.

Traffic to the new classifieds is something like treble what the old one was, AFAIK.

Yeah, even I've been over to see, after reading all many of the threads complaining about it. Still don't use it though

Not quite sure how you come to that conclusion

Because independent bodies like the EFF have frequently pointed out shortcomings that compromise privacy. Plus they were really lax about 3rd party extensions taking advantage of zero day vulnerabilities. While chrome is built off chromium and is at least theoretically open source, chrome is not actually open source, so no-one can really be sure of what is in there.

Traffic to the new classifieds is something like treble what the old one was, AFAIK.

Unique visits or the same 5 people trying to get it to display something or bots/hackers looking for vulnerabilities?

It will just be people visiting after reading these threads to see what the complaints are about.

Why don't the devs put one of those "oh know you're using adblocker whine whine whinge whinge we're loosing money boohooo" notices on which prevents use of the website then? It's guaranteed to make me stop using a website. No point using an adblocker if you're going to whitelist everything.

yours,
Firefox user, Croyden.

Cougar,

Given that you’re a [P] subscriber you shouldn’t be seeing ads anyway. Whitelist STW and it should work.

Given you are now working in security (as I have in the very recent past), you must be aware that malicious ads are now one of the main vectors for delivering malware. You also must be aware that this site has a track record for delivering inappropriate and malicious ads. I'm a [P] subscriber, but since I get logged out at very regular intervals and end up being served the ads I pay to avoid anyway, there is no way I'll be whitelisting this site. I see no evidence that it can be considered safe.

If that is contravention of the T&Cs, then fine, I'll join the ranks of those cancelling my subscription. I'm happy to pay for access to resources which are useful to me, since the ad-driven model is (to me) fundamentally broken. Telling people that they must expose themselves to greater risk to make use of a service they are already paying for is simply not going to work for me.

[/flounce]

Not a ‘P’ subscriber, haven’t been for ages, I also don’t get all the ads, just some.
Makes you think, eh...

I don't get any either. Just the word "advertisement" in random places on the page. Then again I also get messages telling me I can post to closed threads.

If it were my site, I would.

Then again I also get messages telling me I can post to closed threads.

Can you actually do so?
