Over all am I out of pocket ?
thanks 😛
No
Could you start a third thread so I could vote maybe?
🙂
how am I not out of pocket ?
No. Break-even.
1. Bought A £289
2. Return item A = total cost £0.
3. Upgrade to B £329 (incl £40 upgrade) = total cost £329.
4. Return item B £329 - £329 refunded = total cost £0.
5. Incurred penalty £25 (cost) = Total cost £25.
6. Bought C £ 279 minus £25 refunded.
7. Break even.

You have now incurred £25 administrative calculation above.
have paypalled you !
you're £25 out
you have spent 329-25 = 304 to buy an item worth £279
£304-279 = £25
but then that £25 was the penalty for opening item B, so it does balance up
Cheers
Oh, my fee ? Just £25. PPG is fine

am I out of pocket or not ?
you've not been clear enough for anyone to say for sure
what's the list price of item C ?
If it's less than £304 then you're out of pocket (but presumably that's because of the penalty charge)

No. You're not out of pocket.
Break-even.
You are only paying for item C i.e. £279.
what's the list price of item C ?
£279 is what he paid.
item c was £279

Really not sure if trolling here.....
You paid 304 for an item with ticket of 279. That is 279 for the item and 25 quid admin fee.
The refund was for the difference between 329 and 304 .....
Really not sure if trolling here.....
always one Im asking a genuine question !
25 quid admin fee.
Which they refunded when he bought C item from them.
The £25 admin charge is payment for me (him "paying" me, Not the shop) giving advice on STW ... 😆

Not on this thread, no. Seems serious.

I don't want to know what you paid, they could have sold it to you at a discount. I want to know what the list price was
Forget Item A - you effectively got a full refund for that as you put the value towards B.
You paid 329 for item B
Did you ever get a refund - if so how much ?
If you took Item C + £25 instead of a refund, you're out of pocket if the list price of C was less than £304
FFS! It's break-even! 😡
Did you ever get a refund - if so how much ?
£304

The list price doesn't matter. He paid £279 and they gave him the £25 fee back.
okay so start again forget item A
£329 old item
bought back to shop
£25 handling fee deducted(shop took that because I returned £329 item )
new item was £279
got £25 refunded back onto card(not the handling fee)
A = £289 (total cost £289)
A = Return A (total cost £0)
B = Bought B £329 (total cost £329)
B = Return B (total cost £0)
B = Return B incurred £25 handling charge (total cost £25)
C = Bought C £279 (total cost £279 + £25 = £304)
C = Refunded £25 from B (total cost £304 - £25 = £279)
Total cost he incurred is exactly the price of C = £279.
Break-even.
Scaredypants in the pub earlier.
You've paid £304.00 for an item that cost £279.00.
£329.00 minus £279.00 = £50.00 and you only got a £25.00 refund.
£329.00 minus £279.00 = £50.00 and you only got a £25.00 refund.
WTF?
😆
Its all in post 1
Was the item sexy undies or earrings or some other non returnable for hygene reasons item ?
The Sanity Assassin - MemberYou've paid £304.00 for an item that cost £279.00.
£329.00 minus £279.00 = £50.00 and you only got a £25.00 refund.
Usually the shop would cancel/refund the transaction immediately when you return the item to keep thing simple, so each time he returned the item he got refunded.
The only time he got charged was £25 which was later refunded when he bought C. Therefore, he did not incur extra cost.
🙄
edit: this is provided the shop refund / cancel the transaction each time he returned the item.

They haven't done that though.
He has paid £329.00 for an item that cost £279.00. The difference is £50.00.
That £50.00 is his £25.00 refund and the £25.00 admin charge that they have kept.
£279.00 (item) + £25.00 (admin charge) = £304.00.
arrrgggggghhhhh
paid 329
they took 25 handling charge as box was open
(304)
new item cost was £279
they refund me back £25 price difference (this is not the handling charge )
am i out of pocket ???
They haven't done that though.
He has paid £329.00 for an item that cost £279.00. The difference is £50.00.
That £50.00 is his £25.00 refund and the £25.00 admin charge that they have kept.
£279.00 (item) + £25.00 (admin charge) = £304.00.
WTAF?
AH, you see now we all agree Drac:
what's the list price of item C ?
If it's less than £304 then you're out of pocket (but presumably that's because of the penalty charge)
Depends if OP was expecting still to pay the penalty if he accepted a credit rather than cash refund
FFS
Item B is £329.00. He takes it back and they charge him an admin fee of £25.00 because he opened the box.
He decides he wants item C at £279.00, so they refund him £25.00 - which is the difference they now owe.
£279.00 (item) + £25.00 (refund) + £25.00 (admin fee) = £329.00.
They keep the £25.00 admin fee and he's therefore paid £304.00 for the item.
£279.00 (item) + £25.00 (refund)
Why are you adding the refund?
so it comes down to whether or not he's happy to still be paying the £25 penalty, doesn't it ?They keep the £25.00 admin fee and he's therefore paid £304.00 for the item.
Me, I'd be taking my cash back, less £25 (ie £304) if they insisted on taking an admin fee. If I was keeping my business with them I'd expect them to waive it

£279.00 (item) + £25.00 (refund)

no I'm not happy btw
yes why ?
329item - 25(handling charge) = 304 - 279(new item) = 25 (which is back in my account )
£329.00 (item B) minus £25.00 (admin fee) = £304.00.
Item C is £279.00 + £25.00 admin fee that they've kept) = £304.00.
The £25.00 (refund) is the difference between £304.00 and £329.00 (item B).
£25.00 admin fee that they've kept
They refunded. That's why they call it a refund.
Drac, they've kept the admin charge
The difference between what he paid in for Item B (329) and Item C's price (279) is 50 quid
They gave him £25 back. He is £25 out of pocket (which equates to the penalty charge, but it still means he's out of pocket)
scaredypants - Member
Drac, they've kept the admin charge
this is true they did
The difference between what he paid in for Item B [s](329)[/s]304 and Item C's price (279) is 25 quid, which they gave back.
this is true they did
Wait what? Did they refund you £25 after item C or not?
He has paid £329.00
He has an item that cost £279.00
The shop have taken an admin fee of £25.00
£329.00 minus the admin fee leaves £304.00
£304.00 minus the £25.00 refund = £279.00
He has therefore paid £279.00 + an admin fee of £25.00 which = £304.00
The £25.00 refund is the difference between this £304.00 and the original £329.00.
Keep it simple ... 🙄
(Must not be defeated by simple calculation)
A = Bought A £289
A = Return A
A = Refunded A
Total cost £0
-----------------------------
B = Bought B £329
B = Return B
B = Refunded B
B = Incurred £25 handling charge
Total cost £25
-----------------------------
C = Bought C £279
C = C now cost £279 + handling charge £25 = £304
C = Refunded £25
Total cost £304 MINUS £25 (refund) = £279
Therefore, Price of C = £279.
😡
No Chewkw you're supposed to add the refund. 😆
Chewkw is correct. I have the same sums.
EDIT: what WAS the item, anyway?
Drac - ModeratorNo Chewkw you're supposed to add the refund.
😆 I would be very rich that way.
I don't think they refunded B like Chewkw is suggesting.
Looks like £25 down to me (the admin charge)
No no no!!
He buys Item B for £329.00.
He returns Item B, but he's opened it, so they charge him a £25.00 admin fee. He is now entitled to a £304.00 refund. £329.00 minus £25.00
He now buys Item C for £279.00. They refund him the £25.00 difference between Item C (£279.00) and the £304.00 refund he was entitled to after they took the £25.00 admin charge from his original £329.00.

I want to hear The Sanity Assassin's answer !
I shall reveal all in good time
Tee hee
seems to me you've paid 279 for a thing (item C), plus 25 quid for the pleasure of opening a box.
Whether the former is a fair price, only you can judge. I'd be a bit annoyed at the latter.
Im now sure drac is trolling.
c'mon OP, what costs 25 just to open the box?
No, the actual cost of item C was (279-25)=254
buy item C for £279 and got a £25 refund
£329.00 (Item B)
£25.00 (Admin fee)
£25.00 (Refund)
£279.00 (Item C)
£329 (Item B) minus £25.00 (Admin fee) = £304.00 minus £25.00 (Refund) = £279.00 (Item C)
The admin fee was NOT refunded. He has paid that along with his £279.00 for Item C
The Sanity Assassin
it sounds right !
Item was a bloody TV from Richer Sounds it was taken back as SONY smart TVs don't have 4 On demand on them ! I said they should put a sign up up stating that ! The nice guy said loads of people complain about this so Im gonna call Customer services tomorrow and see what they say !
thanks and no Im not happy that they STOLE £25 from me
£329 (Item B) minus £25.00 (Admin fee) = £304.00 minus £25.00 (Refund) = £279.00 (Item C)The admin fee was NOT refunded. He has paid that along with his £279.00 for Item C
But I thought you got a 25 pound discount/refund on the final item you bought? So that would balance everything out.
In any case, 25 pounds might be worth it if there was lots of that plastic sheeting to peel off the screen. And if you popped all the bubble wrap. I love unpacking boxes. #childish
But I thought you got a 25 pound discount/refund on the final item you bought? So that would balance everything out.
Yup they word 'and' rather than 'with' implies that.
Calling ALL stw PhDs please ... you do the maths.

mrkstvnz - Member
£329 + £25 - £25 = £329 - £279 = £50 Down.
By that logic.
£329 - £329 + £25 return fee = £304
£279 - £25 refund = £254
£304 - £254 = £50
Damn he's £50 up.
If they refunded him the £304 after 'B' (on Chewkw workings) and then he made a seperate purchase of £254 (£279 with a £25 refund) for 'C' everything is square
If they used '£304' to deduct the final £279 and then give him the 25 quids back then that only squares the £304
Because he actually paid £329
Drac - ModeratorDamn he's £50 up.
😆 Where is that shop again? I want to buy something from them 3 times. 😆
forget the £254 thats not part of the sum EVER !
look at the original question !
I did NOT get a £25 refund on £279 !
Where is that shop again? I want to buy something from them 3 times.
I don't know if it's the one in Clayton St but be careful in case you go to the one mrkstvnz works in.
