Selling the wee ones bike on Facebook market. £100 for a Raleigh performance so not expensive or rare. We’re in Dundee and got a reply asking if they can pay by Chrono-post. Legit French company, she says a bloke will turn up, give me cash and take the bike ( all the way to Devon!)
Am I right to be wary?

Seems like a great service if it is actually available.  They do a transfer to a known company who actually does the pickup and hands over the cash.  If genuine it reduces the risk for everyone.  I can't see it available on the chronopost site though but I might not be looking correctly

I can't see anything on the chronopost site about them paying cash on collection. They do have a scam avoidance advice page:

Suppose whatever they want to do at their end is of no consequence as long as a bloke turns up and gives you cash.

and also I can't imagine it is safe for their drivers to run around with 1000s in cash.  I think in the end it sounds like an entry into a scam like above

Someone offering to send cash via Chronopost : FacebookMarketplace (reddit.com)

That's one of the classic scams, isn't it?

If they're turning up with cash then what does Chrono-post have to do with you?

That’s one of the classic scams, isn’t it?

"I'm a long way away but you're literally the only place I can buy this commonplace item from. I'll send a representative round and make a payment using some obscure system no-one's heard of."

They'll probably change it to 'I'll pay you with a fraudulent account and then you pay the courier with the extra...in legit cash.

Collect only..

We got good money for my sons bike and other kids bikes. The family picked them up, really nice experience to meet the new owners. This was in covid restrictions too. No posting...

I just asked my long lost Nigeria cousin, who it seems is of Royal descent, he said that if you can send him your bank and passport details before 11pm tonight he'll verify the buyer and ensure the transaction runs smoothly.

If it does he said they'll be the opportunity to share as portion ($1,245,345.69) of his vast wealth before Christmas as a perfect gift to you and your family.

I’ve had a similar proposal, though using DHL.
No courier firm offers cash on collection. Apparently the scam works by them asking you to pay a trivial sum for ‘insurance’ on a fake website allowing them to steal your card details. The idea of cash on collection is just a ruse to get you comfortable, as on the face of it you can’t see how it could be a scam.
