Changing our front door and aluminium doors keep cropping up as being very good thermally, don't change shape throughout the year and don't need repainting.
Anybody got real experience with one?
Yes, my back door is an alu/wood/alu sandwich and it's superb; it faces west so gets hot sunshine and the worst westerlies and rain but it's thermally efficient, stable, solid and the matt finish was perfect for hand-painting with an olive green from Little Greene, which has proved amazingly durable - still in perfect condition with no fading after 13 years, much of which is thanks to the base coat.
The door does expand in very hot sun, meaning it scrapes the sill lightly but that's not a problem.
Ours is only 2 years old but very happy with it. As above, does expand slightly but within the tolerances of the seals/gaps but not distortion.
