Got a variety of shrubs that have spread under the lawn and are now appearing among the grass.
Was hoping to get something like Roundup gel as a spot weedkiller to dab on the shoots and kill them, without killing the grass around them, but it seems Roundup gel has been discontinued as it was more likely to kill me.....anyone got an alternative for a spot/dab weedkiller please?
You need a selective lawn weed killer otherwise you will kill some grass. Just grab a spray bottle of lawn weed killer from b and q.
I had a similar problem (bindweed in a hedge, didnt want to kill the hedge). Had decent sucess with rubber gloves and a sponge. Spray normal liquid roundup on the sponge, only a very small amount, not enough to drench it, dab it on the weeds. You dont need much roundup for it to work, it just takes a while.
Get on your knees and dig the weeds out.
Big lawns need big maintenance.
Bindweed - unravel a decent length, put it in a plastic bag, spray inside the bag.

What's the shrub?
You might be better getting a pro in with some decent weedkiller; you need evidence of a PA1 and PA6 qualification if that's what you decide
Progreen will help https://www.progreen.co.uk/
Had decent sucess with rubber gloves...snip
Be careful there, not all rubber gloves are equal at chemical-resistance
Roundup is pretty harmless, certainly not an issue if it gets on your skin occaisionally. Much of the 'health concerns' are whipped up hysteria by the conspiracy theory mob who dont like Monsanto, similar to the big pharma haters. I worked with herbicides back in the day, have my PA1 and PA4 and was BASIS registered. We were accused of poisonong someones dog so i did the calcs based on the LD50 value of Round Up, dog would have needed to lick clean two and half miles of pavement to get close to a lethal dose.
You can still get the gel, its not banned. Places like B & Q stopped selling it due to the hysteria. The irony is much of what they do sell is chemically nastier than Glyphosate and not as effective.
Both are true in tbat hysteria led to overstating of roundups dangers but also harm it does is well proven. Monsanto did fake up safety studies as well.
Its nasty stuff and if you have tbe slightest care for the environment do not use it
Interestingly it's not the Glyphosate active ingredient that causes the problem for things like bees, it's the other chemicals in the mix like the surfactants that cause the issues when the bees are directly sprayed. There will be surfactants in most herbicides to help it penetrate the plant leaves.
Weed killers have their place and uses. What's also quite scary is the number of people that make up their own concoctions which are a lot worse. Remember all herbicides have to be licensed for specific use types in the UK.
