Not really looking for ‘alternative’ news channels, I’m still thinking mainstream.
What impartial news app.
What alternative to Twitter that has news as well as bands and music and on there and some stupid stuff.

Doubt you'll find an impartial news app but likely to find some that aren't as obviously not impartial.
Saying that, I scan the BBC news website rather than an app, so I suspect I'm not helping here.

I use the Guardian app, as matches my slightly lefty bias.

I've never used Twitter, so can't help there.

I find the Daily Mail to be a good barometer of world news

Yeah, Guardian is my recommendation as well. Yes, it definitely has a left bias, but also will generally have good articles from both sides for major stories so has some good balance. No awful tabloidism that the BBC seems to have now gone for. Journalists generally have a good sense of humour as well.

Lefty here as well but also find it useful seeing what the R are saying. I’m just sick of the BBC repeating govt lines without question, as well as the inane celebrity chat.

Given that my Tory voting parents still hate the BBC for their woke, left wing, anti government stance, I'm not sure I can help. They seem to like Sky news, fwiw.

I'm a Guardian/Washington Post fan.

Guardian is mostly OK. And mastodon. I've given up on the BBC.

Guardian app for news that is actually news rather than press releases issued by the Tory party

If you’re doing Twitter then Channel 4 news. About the only impartial TV news left and their Twitter feed reflects that

I’m amazed how bad the BBC is nowadays. Incredible to think that not so long ago it was the benchmark. It’s now a very long way short of that

Twitter still does have some gold though.

Cheers - might be worth a try with my old uncle, he's been captured by GB News and the endless shite the Facebook algorithm has learnt to show him.

The week is a good, balanced review of events. Its not bang up to date, so depends on how much you need this-minutes action. It's also not free, but you get what you pay for

If you want 'unbiased' in UK written press you'll have to read two papers with different leanings, i.e. read both the Guardian and Times. If you have a local library card Libby and Press Reader gives you access to some papers.

+1 to Al Jazeera for more world news, but has bias on Middle East stories as you might expect given it's funding.

Paid for I read the FT for much more balanced / evidence based reporting and world news.

+1 for The Guardian, Reuters and FT.
Longer form weeklies - New Statesman (L), Spectator (R) and The Economist.
The New European - liberal lefty and, as the name implies, anti-brexit and strongly pro-europe.
Private Eye.
CNN - liberal Democratic bias in their US-focussed news progeammes; also a good spread of global/international news; online version will give you a flavour.

I doubt any new outlet could be described as truly impartial - there us some bias in all of them but a wide spread of sources will provide a good balance.

Ground News, that way you can get news from varied and global basis and compare different takes on the same story.

According to my relative yesterday, the daily mail are under more scrutiny than any other newspaper, so for that reason, everything they publish now must be the truth and accurate, otherwise it wouldn't get through.

And the BBC are "brainwashing" the nation, the only trustworthy news channel getting to the truth is GB news.

So there you go, daily mail for online and print, GB for your Tele news needs.

Fat boy Botham was guest editor on Today today so that's the right wing Brexit bigots catered for.

Fat boy Botham was guest editor on Today today

And there you have it. A single sentence that sees off any remaining semblance of credibility the BBC had

Well they have to make an effort to balance the lefty hand-wringing for the rest of the year

idiot - did you bother to listen to Today?
IF you did, you would know it wasn't a forum for Botham to promote his pro-Brexit views nor was there any content which would appeal to the 'right wing Brexit bigots'.
Why don't you share with us what, in particular, in the programme reflected or represented Botham's brexit views?
It would be informative to know what you made of the discussions the role of trade envoys and Botham's
fund-raising which has done much for leukemia research.
I certainly don't share any of Botham's political views but have huge admiration for his cricketing performances and fund raising.
Have you done anything noteworthy you would like to share?

I'd say there's no unbiased news source. So the best thing is to read from a wide range of sources. I'd add DW (Deutsche Welle) to the list of good sources already given.
DW

DW: News and current affairs from Germany ...

Just buy a copy of "This Week" - which actually gives you a selection of what is reported by various sources, and from around the world. It would appear that London is not the centre of the universe.

The Guardian is hardly un-bias - it reports what it's editor wants to publish, just as every other news source.
But it you just want to see the world only from lefty world, then that'll suit you fine.

STW seems pretty a good sythesis so long as you stick to the forum and ignore the editorial stuff.
