righto, basically im wanting to learn how to do all this film download stuff. Searched the web with results to do with torrents that i understand are illegal?

As i dont have any apple products, is there any other sites that do the same thing but for normal formats..i.e pc's and android phones as i'm due to upgrade soon and was thinking of getting a new tablet at the same time

thanks in advance

download films using torrents. Play them on mediaplayer or vlc player or whatever you want. I cant see where you're struggling?

Amazon is the cheapest MP3 download legal thingy.
LastFM if you want to stream.

Love film let you stream but I doubt you can download a film leagally?

Torrents are very tempting.

david

i've never ventured into the world of torrents..all i know is that its a p2p thing? and that the potential for viruses are high..from what i've been told.

the only films i've ever watched have been via dvd but am now wanting to try the legal download thing so i can store films/music in one place. The only way i've ever put music on my pc is via the disc in the drive way. this is all new to me 😳

soma

so i guess i'd have to go for an apple product to be able to use itunes etc?

I think so. If you want to buy from the Itunes store. But thats more expensive than Amazon. If you want to buy films it does look like you need an apple device.

You'll struggle to transfer it to the tablet, well not really struggle but unless you get a tablet with a large amount of storage you'll be constantly transferring files to and from.

A much easier way to do it is to setup a shared folder on the PC where you store all your ripped DVDs. You can browse shared folders on Android tablets and stream media from them, not sure about iOS.

I did it by setting up a NAS which included a UPNP media server, store all the media on that, then installed a UPNP client on my Android tablet and phone. Now I can stream videos, music and pictures wirelessly all over the house. It's awesome.

You can stream films to xbox via some sort of MS service called Zune. I haven't looked, but would have thought it would also be in Windows Media Player.

Lovefilm also do online streaming, and YouTube are starting one. You'd have to check which ones will allow you to transfer to other devices.

transporter, afro has a storage device seperate from his computer that is simply for data (films, pictures, tunes) and uses an app on his laptop to run them wirelessly to his laptop.

OK?

i think your going to struggle. why dont you go on google & type torrentz. go to torrentz & put your film in. it will then give you all the sites that have the torrent. click on pirate bay. the reason i say pirate bay is because people leave coments & if it has a virus they will tell you in the coments. if it has no coments then dont download it. it is not illegal to download movies it is illegal to share.
transferring from dvd to a format for your pc eg avi, mpeg can be rather long winded, time consuming & quite complicated. it would be quicker to download. 🙂

Haha, sorry, got abit enthusiastic and geek mode turned on.

This is what I meant.

Either way, wanting to watch films on a tablet/laptop can be a PITA cause the movie industry is still stuck in the 90's.

Easiest way is to use iTunes, buy the films/TV shows from iTunes, watch them on your PC using iTunes. You MAY be able to watch them on an iPad but I'm not sure. This is probably one of the more expensive ways though.

Cheap but very time consuming and doesn't always work is to buy the DVD, rip it to your PC (google DVD ripping for a multitude of tools). Then you would be able to watch it from your PC. If you wanted to watch it from say a laptop in another room you would need to share the Folder that contained the ripped DVD. Google sharing folders on windows for tutorials on that.

thanks all..helped a lot....time to learn how these things work.

can you use a normal pc on itunes then? if so then it would save me a lot of hassle as i already have a decent pc tower connected to my tv with a largish hd (500gb)

You can watch films and TV shows purchased via iTunes on the iPad no problem at all (and even iPod/iPod touch in most cases) as it already sorts the formatting for you.

I think both the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 have movie streaming services in their online stuff, but the choice is limited compared to American customers if I recall correctly.

Yes, some torrents are "illegal" although morally I think its fine!

As for viruses, Ive never got one from a torrent download, they usually all carry a rating or user comments as too how good they are.
