We stayed before when we visited Disney (dont ask) and it will be fine in almost every way for this years summer hols apart from I don't think I like the surrounding countryside.
We will have a 4 month and a 3 year old so having 2 pools, 2 bars, 2 restaurants, bowling alley, bar, pizza shop, shop, lake, beach all on site will keep the family entertained without having to leave camp. Being 5 hours from Calais is also makes the journey bearable.
However I would like to take the bikes and do a bit of exploring of the surrounding french countryside (doesn't need to be France) in my downtime as well as short family rides to nearby towns / interests. From the previous trip and a review of google maps there does not appear to be anything very interesting without a drive - which I hate on my hols. I also like visiting new places.
Please can you recommend an alternative campsite within 7 hours drive of London OR tell me I have missed the best bits of this area OR tell me what I suspect I know - just go with it!
Thanks
Anyone stayed here
camping le lac d’Orient
Ha! yes stayed at both and like both.
Croix du vieux is a much bigger and better equipped site and every year we've been they seem to have added a new bit. It's kinda resorty though.
The surrounding countryside is classic French road bike country and pretty good but I know what you mean it's kinda vast, featureless fields of crops with minor roads.
Lac d'Orient is okay as a site but is much smaller, however we rode our bikes straight out and there are marked trails that go round the lake and further afield mixture of gravel/dirt roads & tracks and backroads.
Why not do both?
I'll see if I can dig out Stravas and photos
Thanks tiger any more info much appreciated. Ordinarily I think lac d orient looks much more our bag but I am not sure how much family cycling there will with a 3 month old! Any other suggestions maybe some hills for dad downtime?
thanks again
