You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Hi, just found out that insureandogo no longer cover mtb as main activity holidays any more. Any other suggestions please?
I just went with Dogtag again because they're always filling my inbox with discount codes. I've never had to claim though.
I had to claim on Dogtag (14 years ago) for a pretty serious accident - would not recommend.
A particularly fun time was had when the hospital wouldn't discharge me until I had accommodation and Dogtag wouldn't fund accommodation until I was discharged. (I was waiting for a fit-to-fly cert after a major operation)
Now use Yellow Jersey but luckily have not had to test them yet
You can get rescue and repatriation cover through membership of the Austrian alpine club.
Most medical costs should be covered then by the reciprocal agreement with the UK and EU. What you have too look out for is the private medical facilities in mountain resorts are often not part of the countries health service, soi that may need extra medical insurance.

(and that is for any holiday not just mountain jaunts iirc)
We've gone Yellow Jersey. Seems to cover everything we need (MTB in Morzine).
Remember to use the Singletrack link and discount if you go for it too.
Virgin Money do proper travel insurance which covers mountain biking. Was about 1/3 the cost of dogtag for our annual family policy. A mate bought a policy on the way out to the white room with me a couple of weeks ago. It was something comedically cheap, like £15 for the week.
Currently in the alps and used Yellow Jersey before i went.
I remembered to try the ST discount code and it didn't work. Followed the instructions for emailing when a discount code doesn't work... heard nothing yet but all too late for me anyway as I needed to buy the insurance before i left ☹️
Black Cat insurance have been great for the last three group trips I took - not that expensive and a reasonably quick payout each time we've had to claim (9 claims over the 3 years)

That level of cheapness would make me concerned. Are they definitely happy to cover when riding is the main purpose of the trip? Usually the standard activities list (if thats when riding is mentioned) is just for having a go at something rather than the main part of the holiday
Thanks for all the replies so far, currently working my way through the quotes so suggestions have been really useful.
We use CoverForYou. Includes mountain biking below 2500m as long as you have a helmet on and aren’t racing. No prerequisites for marked trails or anything.
we claimed last trip 2 years ago when my son broke his collarbone when he popped off the back of a berm. They paid for the expensive Avoriaz hospital care, painkillers and posh sling and even reimbursed the unused days of his lift pass.
@lister, just looked at that and the policy is weirdly relaxed about the "type" of MTB upto 2500m - couldnt find any get out clauses (bar the helemt thing)!
i've just gone with CoverforYou for my 2 weeks in PDS with the family. dumped the Sport pack 1 on (kids will be doing GoApe and stuff) and for the 4 us £61! YellowJersey (who i do like and have used for America big hols before) want £250! Cheers lister!
No worries, I hope you don’t need to use it but, if you do, I’m optimistic they’ll look after you.

I was suspicious too, but t seems legit: aggregator_policy_wording.pdf
Had Yellow Jersey for 2 years. Annual policy. Mainly for road riding abroad.
They paid out on a trip abandonment pretty quickly earlier this year. Would recommend!

Should is doing alot of heavy lifting there .
From experience - that isn't the case. (in france - more specifically Grenoble)
Stabilisation is covered that is all.

from the activities list:
"Cycling (not main purpose of trip – recreational only, no racing or competitions)
Mountain Biking (recreational including general cross country and off road cycling)"
Both of those lines are a red flag for heading to the alps to ride in big mountains for a week or so. Definitely worth a phonecall
We had similar qualms so we spoke to them via live chat (took a while to get beyond the bot) and as long as we weren’t cycle touring or doing an organised DH like mega or racing they were fine with it.
You might get reciprocal health care but i wouldn't assume any repat is included
Do you still get a 'travel pack' with Dogtags single trip insurance? I seem to remember a handy wee pack coming through the door with wallet sized cards and actual dogtags printed with the policy details and emergency contacts. Is it all online now? I'm fond of having printed details with me as I've got a very vague, pain filtered memory of doctors in Bulgari refusing me treatment until they'd seen a copy of my passport and insurance policy number.
