A long time coming, and now they're here. I quite like the look of the zhota, but would want the poundage (£+lb) to be lower....as always 🙂 I try and keep to 1kg per person but then again they're semi geo tents.

What are your thoughts?

Doesn't seem much like the prototype they were showing a year ago?

looks to be pretty much copies of terra nova? with a few features from others?

Very very heavy for the cost

TJ, I don't think your cost:weight comparison is relevant as these are made for the mountains where I'd went it to be a little sturdier so it stays up in the wind.

fourbanger - I have a very similar 3 season terranova / wild country that I have used in the mountains in all weathers for decades that is half the weight. It has stood up to full on gales and pelting rain

Edit - maybe a bit more than half the weight

You have a geodesic 4 season mountain tent that weighs under 3 kilos?

They're pretty much on a par weightwise. But given that they're not that much cheaper than the more established brands I know where my money would go.

The alpkit is 3 season is it not? Roof too flat to cope with snow. a £300 two person tent I would want to be lighter that that (3.5 kgs without pegs or guys claimed). My 20 year old one is lighter and has coped with full on gales and pelting rain. In 20 years I would hope for improvement

They are claiming that they're 4-season.

Flat roof = snow build up = collapsed tent.

My tent habits lie with Terra Nova. I love my Voyager Superlite but could do with more room. The alpkit tents are competitively priced against TN as expected, but I thought they'd be a tad cheaper!

I think I'll wait until some rich kid sells off their 4 season after a gap yah.

Failing to see what part of the roof is flat, seems to curve front to back and side to side ???

Thinking about a "proper" expedition I still can't think of anything else other than a Quasar tent (Wild Country, not one of these new fangled Terra Nova branded ones). Still have the tingles thinking of my old one with snow and rock valences and an uprated ground sheet. Not light but guaranteed to still be there in the morning.

hmmmm. i was about to press the button to buy a Quasar, then spotted the new alpkit tents.

Don't really want to be a test pilot, but i'd be lying if I said they hadn't grabbed my attention......
