A while ago in one of the many "sales", I got an Alpkit Argonaut jacket for £90 (I have seen it slightly cheaper since).
I've not yet taken the plunge to wearing it and still have the option to return. I bought it to replace a North Face Dryzzle (which is Goretex but not really waterproof anymore. The newer versions of the jacket aren't Goretex).
I know little about materials and jackets, is the Argonaut worth hanging onto? Or could I spend £90 (or much less) and get something better? Waterproofness is probably the top priority over breathability.
IME lightweight Gortex/breathable are a compromise.
I bought a Berghaus Paclite a while back. It wasn't cheap.
It would keep me dry over a short period but over a few hours I got wet.
I have a stretchy North Face gortex shell now, much heavier but does actually keep me dry.
My dad had one and returned it because it was about as breathable as a bin bag.
As above, it's is in no way breathable, but I bought it as a light weight summer waterproof, just incase jacket. I wouldn't use it for prolonged exercise.
