Woke up this morning to load off snow... Coming down from the hill and the road was white.

I stupidly ran off the road into a ditch. Panic!

Managed to manoeuvre the back 20m, but the off side was still stuck in the ditch... Bit of tooing and froing got the rear wheel back on the road and had enough space clear at the front to fit the snow chains.

First time fitting them. Bit of a head scratching and freezing fingers despite gloves, but that gave me enough purchase to get out.

Fortunately there is no damage to the van. Barely missed a few big rocks on the side and the steering is good. Could have been a very expensive and embarrassing morning....

Biggest lesson of this is stay in the middle of the road and have a practice fitting chains before you need them....

lucky.

biggest thing to remember with chains is fit them before you need them , road was white you were on a hill , arguably the chains should have been on even if using winters.

But the time you realise you really need chains its often too late to fit them in any meaninful safe way .

Disappoint.

Thought this thread was about fitting a woodburning stove in a van

Clipped our car on a rock when I got too close to a dry stone wall this morning. Nice big scratch across rear passenger door. Wish I'd stayed indoors now 🙁
