God Damn my hay fever is bad at the moment - anyone else getting a bad dose?
Not had it properly bad for years, thought I had it beat so given up on the antihistamines - took one the other day and had an allergic reaction, was shitting through the eye of a needle at thirty paces.

What is the antihistamine de jour? Allegra used to be effective for me, but not sure you can get it over the counter.

Quite the opposite, moved from Hampshire to Edinburgh and first summer here. It's not been anywhere near as bad..... but there is a few weeks delay this far north in things flowering etc so could be in for a nasty surprise.. Where do you live?

I'm never sure why hay fever deserves to be an actual fever. Dengue Fever, or Yellow Fever - pretty acute illness often resulting in death. Hay Fever - sniffly nose and itchy eyes. Boo****inghoo. MTFU.
Cue "you don't know what it's like if you don't "suffer"."......

Was feeling in good form on the bike all evening, as it goes - rode back from Buxton. Stopped in for some hydration at the Magnet, sat down and the sneezes began immediately.

I used to live in Edinburgh and had nae bother with the hay fever (after getting it pretty bad when I was younger). Now live in Manchester and having a flare up.

I just wanted to let you know how much I admire you and your unwavering masculinity. Pretty much everything about your online persona just oozes toughness and resilience. You have to remember that not everyone can be like you, the gene pool wasn't so generous to most of us 🙁

I dont *usually* get hayfever, but I'm in bits at the moment.

Havent tried antihistamine simply because I. m not familiar with taking it for allergies, as I never thought I had it. But my nose and throat suggest otherwise for the last week. Maybe I ought to go and nick some of Junior's piritin and see if it helps...afterall, hes given me his nits 😯 🙄

Yes it is bad. I'm in the peaks too and got wiped out Wednesday night after mowing the lawn 🙄
Took a tablet afterwards which is too late and felt absolutely knackered all day yesterday!

Loratadine, get the generic stuff, exactly the same as the brands but 80% cheaper. If it works for you then you can bulk buy it online even cheaper.

Thanks. Eat some local honey and take a homeopathy pill.

Yep, Its awful at the moment. I dread every trip I have to take outside and not been on the bike in two weeks 🙁 Last ride out and I was in a mess all the following night and day.

Generic loratadine here coupled with a nasal spray and eye drops only just manage to keep me comfortable inside.

I am battling at the moment too, haven't done for a few years so strange to be suffering now.

I just take a Boots/Tesco own brand one per day hayfever pill, sometimes a second when I cycle in the evening.

It's rubbish. Feel like I have man flu, got sore throat and wheezing as well. sinuses blocked solid.

Totally put me off riding at the moment. Rode last week and forearms were a welted blotchy mess where I had brushed past long grass.

Antihistamine du jour: Fexofenidine. on prescription only.

It's better than nowt. 3 weeks time it should start subsiding. worst it's been in many years. I blame the mild winter.

honey and homeopathy? 'k off!

Very bad this year after a few years of thinking it had gone. Sneezing like mad and last night I must have brushed against pollen on my ride as my arms were a massive red blotchy mess.

I've got it bad too - never used to get it at all. Daily generic loratidine helps quite a lot.

Mizollen works for me. I formed the impression that one builds a tolerance to a med after a while, and needs to move on.

Loratadine, bee pollen tablets and nasal spray here. Seems to keep it all in check at the moment.
Cetirizine did absolutely nothing for me.
Still get welts if I ride through tall grass, so sticking to the roads for my commute at the moment.
People in the office who do not suffer have been complaining this week.

Don't get hayfever every year, but this year do seem to have been suffering a bit so must be fairly bad.

Doctor: So tell me the symptoms of your hayfever.

OP: Well the breathing difficulties and itchy eyes are pretty bad, but the thing that really gets me is these earthquakes.

🙂

Seriously though, allergies do suck.

Dreadful for me, loretadine keeps it at bay, ish, but I'm carrying Optrex Itchy eyes everywhere I go!

The antihistamine syrup works more quickly I find - great if you've forgotten to take a tablet and you're heading out, and glasses help keep the worst of the pollen out of your eyes. I dab of vaseline under your nose can help too, though if you're a serial nose wiper it doesn't last long!

Oh - I forgot. There is another remedy - Raw onion!
A big white hardcore one. If you can get the best part of one of these down you you'll be fine for the day, albeit a bit stinky.

Better than loretadine. This is a bit like burning a forest down to prevent it catching fire though. The initial pain is short but intense, then the rest of the day is a breeze.

Really bad this year too. A bit snotty, sneezy mess. Nice.

Loratadine has been useless for me, so I went to see the Doc this morning, to get some prescription nasal spray, and get a better recommendation for tablet. We'll see how that goes.

Might be worth a trip to the GP if Loratadine doesn't do anything.

Aha - just googled the onion thing for the first time. It doesn't work in a fire fighting fire style that I previously thought (for years up to now!)

It contains quercetin, an anti-inflammatory and natural anti-histamine.
And red ones are good too. So a nice salad would do it.

I'd been munching into them like an apple. 😕

If I'm outside and there is a breeze or I'm moving about tends to be fine. It can be worse indoors sometimes.... not why?
