Loans/viagra/dieting ads on classifieds, we never got these on the old site ????????
Not happy at paying yearly for premium and then nearly £10 for an advert, come on STW sort it out, otherwise your just slowly losing us all.

Have you emailed? This thread won't be looked at by anyone who might be able to do something...

Will "male enhancement" help me MTFU, or just make me more of a prick?

I was wondering whether Singletrack accounts are still manually vetted or if it's now all done automatically and reliant on a fairly weak "tick the box" CAPTCHA.

Some of the bots' usernames are a bit of a give away, such as Urgentloan which has been posting up ads for dodgy financial services/products over several days (possibly after having been banned in-between); even a moderately good automatic registration system ought to be able to blacklist certain trigger words in usernames.

I’d agree.

If anything, they should have called themselves UrgentLoam and they’d have been inundated with replies

Urgent loam makes the trails come alive for a monthly repayment.

The inevitable, and yet somehow unplanned for, consequence of the new Classifieds being spammed out to other channels.

Aside from anything else, we did get these on the old site, a lot. They just got deleted by the moderators very quickly so you probably never even saw most of them. On the new system we don't (yet) have the ability to do that directly so the deletion process is slower.

If they are paying then why remove them? Playing devil's advocate here but the classifieds (and forum) are there to generate revenue for the main office (if they weren't then ad blockers wouldn't be an issue or be required). So why not have a system that is intended to allow people to sell stuff actually sell stuff? If it is following the process to pay to advertise then why block it?
I don't ever use the classifieds nor look at them and I'm also absolutely clueless on how stw works (other than what gets posted on the forum) so I'm oblivious to the issue, but I also know apart from the moderators, no-one from stw towers checks the forum with any regularity, so if everything is working as expected they are unlikely to be checking what is actually being advertised...

They’re not paid adverts.

Ironically the OP used to be the resident classifieds spammer 🙃

This is STW. It's the users fault, remember?

Dickbarton, the whole point of classifieds on a mtb/cycling website is to sell products mostly related to cycling and selling your products is all about the first page adds, but if your add is not staying on the first page long enough because of all these shit adds then why bother, that’s my point, ps they have been removed thanks moderators

I think I said I knew little in my post and evidently, I was right. Reading the op, it sounded like these were paid ads, but they aren't, so I was wrong.

don't you get a special business rate JRM... being in the trade or at least appearing to be with the number and type of ads you list ?

Kaiser, in the trade ? i didn't think owning a good few bikes and swapping them fairly regular, swapping out components due to trying different things, would class me as being in the trade ? those who know me or have dealt with me will tell you i'm an honest and genuine bike geek 🙂

Do you report them when you see them (using the moderator email)? Or do you just huff and expect them to disappear?
