Yamaha RD350LC
Yamaha RD350 YPVS F2
Yamaha RD500 YPVs
Yamaha TZR 250 v-twin
Honda VTR 1000 SP1
Husqvarna SMR 570

I'd buy them all again if I had the money.

Were either of those the one with the massive turbo that had a lag of about about two days?

The GTX wasn't a turbo and not sure what the Gordini turbo was like but I had a mk 2 GT Turbo in 1989 and the lag was the same as most turbo cars those days. Turbo starts to come in at around 2500 and then builds to 4,000 where it flies for 1,500.
I had the spring changed in the actuator so had 160BHP instead of the 120 and it felt ridiculously fast at the time but would probably be slow now compared to most off the shelf hot hatches although it was almost half the weight.

As for cars I regret selling;
Escort MKII RS2000 custom
Rover P6

Also owned between 88 - 90 and both mint. I typically changed car about every 3 months between 88 and 91 as I landed a well paid job and was still living at home until 21 but this are the only 2 I would want back.

Why yes, yes it was.

That was all part of the fun. The thrill was in the anticipation. Like that nasa countdown but longer

My 91 mini cooper. 1275, big su carb, stage 1 tune. 12" mini lites. Loved that car. At the time I was doing too much motorway miles and couldn't afford to keep it and buy another car.

Replaced it with a rover 216. Which turned out awful.

The mini now is probably worth 10 times what I sold it for.

A very short list, I've had a lot of worthy but dull vehicles, apart from these:

TVR Chimaera 4.5L V8
VFR800 pre VTECH
BSA A65 Thunderbolt

1971 Dodge Polara Station wagon
1970 Plymouth Satellite (had tears in my eyes when I sold that)
Loads of Lambrettas and Vespas, I'd buy every one back if I could.

I'll get another late 60's yank when I get my pension lump sum (next 2 years), my missus will have the hump though!
I won't bother with another Lammy as they are ridiculous money to buy now, I'd have one if they were reasonable.

Mk3 Escort XR3 (non injection) my first car at 19 years old

+1 I had a black one, a lucky garage find which I appreciated less at the time, but paid £1650 and it was in mint condition. Loved that car.

Also my E46 330i.

Only one that I've regretted selling - my GSX1100 Katana.

<Edit> Forgot, probably because I didn't sell it, just sort of lost it, a Benelli 250 Quattro. Utterly ridiculous, terrible in most measurable ways, but somehow rather endearing. <edit>

Have owned plenty and got rid of some I was glad to see the back of but I wish I still had:

’72 bay window VW van. Sold as it needed massive restoration that we couldn’t afford.
Landrover S3 ‘lightweight’ was sold as had nowhere easy to keep it as a ‘fun’ vehicle so it was in the roadside which wasn’t great for it.
Mk1 Astra GTE, although that did end up becoming a rally car so probably got more use and enjoyment than when I had it.
Range Rover ‘classic’ wasn’t sold but was swapped for a Discovery as the fuel bills were crippling me. The Disco ate its gearbox 6 months later.
<span style="font-size: 0.8rem;">VW T5. Sold when we bought a caravan so didn’t need a camper van too but over the next 4 years I missed having a van so much I gradually worked up through bigger cars until I just ended up with another van (although this time it is a Trafic.) </span>

Paid £500 for mine in 1996, went to view it and the guy also had a Mk2 S&M Dirtbike (bmx) for sale for £150 so bought that too! the XR3 cost me £800 to insure for the year

I never owned an RD500 but rode one a fair bit and it was disappointing bit soft bit slow, nearly bought an Aprilla RS250 and have regreated not.

I think at some point i will buy amd keep a Yamaha TZR250 just as a final 2 stroke.

Like others, so so many but includes:
Yam 350LC
Duke 500 Pantah
Duke 900ss
Guzzi Le Mans Mk1
BMW R100RS in martini colours
Mini Cooper S Mk2
Mini Cooper S mk3
Two Midgets
Fiat 124 Spider RHD
Fiat 124 Coupe
Alfa GTV V6
Alfa Spider Boat-tail
Lancia Fulvia 1600HF
Lancia Monte Carlo
Land Rover Mk1
205 GTi
106 Rallye

Regret the last three and perhaps a Cooper S the most and I wish I’d kept my best Spridget alloy panels, original mini lites and with a twin cam in it. All owned in a previous life..many years ago.

minty cav

Well I attempted to upload a pic of a mint Cav CD I spotted in November. I imagine Couger would want that a lot.

They were way better than the Mondeo or Sierras at the time but I still wouldnt want one now.

I had a DT50 with a YZ80 shock and a DT80 engine bored out to 95cc, all logged as a 50cc, fastest noisiest moped around! neighbours must have loved it when I moved up to the 350YPVS.

Loved my TDR250 complete with TZR250 wheels for the supermoto ride.

I really liked my KTM Duke2 complete with G-Force cans and rolling roaded, but unfortunately it cracked into two pieces when it met a Yaris. Boy it could eat speed bumps and B roads, just not Toyota's.

Vespa GTS 250 was great to scoot around on, so much fun as a twist & go, really pissed of the GS1200 lot along the A10 light to light. After swapping out the lethal OE tyres, it just needed suspension that actually did something.

Shoulda kept the ex AA T4, got rid of as they were talking of it being heavily taxed in London but it never happened whilst we were there.

V6 Omega Elite. Heavy, very thirsty, RWD, auto, loads of gadgets, bought after someone else had paid for the depreciation, hilarious when engaged in 'sport' mode.

VW Bora 1.9 diesel. Bought from one of the seemingly few honest second hand car dealers. Well looked after. Would've gone on for ever I'm sure.

BMW 316ti

Sold it with 80,000 on the clock and in mint condition. Someone got a bargain.

Nothing special, certainly not fast, but I saw quite attached to it.

Still regret selling my BMW 130i when I could have just let my now wife use it.

Should have kept my Golf V5 for longer. Sold it to a friend 11 years ago and he eventually gave it to his brother who has only just sold it on now. They had very cheap motoring out of it compared to me. Though at the same time I still regret not selling the Golf earlier than I did to buy the same friends BMW Z3M Coupe for about £12k 😭

Does it sound stupid to say that I miss my 1997 Citroen Xsara diesel? It was quite easily the vilest colour imaginable (someone kind would say "yellow" but I'd go with "Electric Mucus").

Ultimately though it was completely bombproof. Not clever. Not fancy. It just worked, and was easy to work on too.

I sold it to my sister and she finally destroyed it by driving it though a flood and hydraulic locking the engine. Had a whole replacement engine and she saw that one off six months later by not noticing that the road was covered in black ice.

Honda NSR400. The bike that got me to the hospital very quickly when Ms Sandwich announced she was in a hurry to arrive.

Small and compact, went like greased poo off a shiny shovel.

Those last-generation Cavaliers were very comfy and pleasant to drive, I used to rag my boss's turbo diesel around Herts & Essex when I was a junior reporter on a local rag.

A few years later I was given one of these, when a friend of my dad's passed away.

Except mine was gold, with brown velour seats and the slowest electric windows in the world.

Still possibly the most comfortable car I've owned.

Yamaha RD350 YPVS F2 - did we all have one? Sold for an imported

VF400R/NC30

Also wish I'd kept my Yam TDM850 but only because it was the last bike I owned.

Cars tho, probably only my '99 RS4 which was company leased so it wasn't mine to sell. Probably a good job I quit as it wasn't going to end well.

Wished I'd kept the VFR tho. Just to look at.

Wish I’d kept my 69 Fulvia coupe.

More than that, I wish I’d bought one of the Integrales I test-drove and rejected. Silly money now.

But the environment is thanking me for both of those bad decisions.

Hmm
2.0 capri looked rough but drove well
2.9 sierra ended up with a hole in the chassis.
2.5 probe. Awesome car just needed more poke . Still miss it.
180sx not registered in uk bought for £500 did nothing with it and sold it. Kick myself all the the just needed the space.
2.5d Alfa 159, great car did 35mpg if you drove like a granny, do 32mpg if you thrashed it. Suspension arms wore out quicker than brake pads though.

That is one nice bike

It was even tho it was tiny. I fitted the mostly pointless pillion seat and took my girlfriend (now wife) on the back and she hated it. She is 5ft4 and I'm close to 6ft and she was still way higher than me on the bike 🙂

I've yet to find a MTB than corners like that bike. So much fun.

I tried an NC30 and it was tiny and more uncomfortable than my 3 cylinder 400. Very smooth revving though and a lovely exhaust note.

I know some will laugh at this, but I really regret selling my Yugo Sana. I stupidly allowed someone to buy it for scrap ( and that's where it ended up ). This was early 2000's, long before social media was a thing, and I had no idea a Yugo owner's club existed to get in contact with.
The car was in excellent condition also, and it's turned out to be one of the rarest cars on the road today.

Without wish to derailing this thread, it was supremely impractical. An hour was about the most I could manage (and it'd run out of fuel as well), but what an hour you'd have. The V4 was mechanical genius. Mine came with a race pipe and it sounded fantastic. I was warned not to open it up until well clear of where we lived 🙂

Cars I should have kept? In no particular order

MG Midget RWA - sold for about a grand in the late '90s
VW Golf GTi MK2. Really competent, but very dull. Would be worth 10x what I sold it for now.
Alfa Spider 1750 (105 series). This is the biggie, financially, but I would probably have spent more than its current value just keeping it running.
Alfa GT Junior (105 series). As above.
A succession of Mk1 MR2s (AW11). The best driver's cars I've ever experienced but sadly water soluble. Worth a lot more than I got for them now.
Alfasud 105ti. Sold with no MOT for £550 (having bought it 3 years earlier for £650). A car that made me giggle like no other. Absolute hen's teeth now.
A couple of E30 325i Tourings. Both with manual gearboxes. Way out of my price range now.

Cars I wish I still had, though not for financial reasons:
Triumph Spitfire MKIV - was a crap car and now "only" worth about 4 times what I sold it for, but I have some very, very happy memories there.
Triumph Dolomite 1850HL (couldn't afford a Sprint). Lived out of this car on a few 'surfaris" in my 20s, and was just such a characterful (and yet trustworthy) old thing.

And at a push 2000 Saxo VTS

I've looked at AXs but the price now for is silly.

My 1991 Rover Coupe in British Racing Green.
The first car I bought with my own money when I started working.
It was only the 1.6 (my god that Honda engine could rev though) but it still had the power-bulge in the bonnet from the 2 litre.
I loved that car... had to sell it though as I was moving abroad.

Of all the cars I've had the only one I should have kept is the 1985 Mini. I sold it but only because the floorpan had turned into a colander and I didn't have the time or facilities to make it good.

And that's the crux of the matter, innit.

If the thread was titled "All the vehicles you sold... but would have kept if someone else would have maintained and stored them", I'd have more suggestions.

As it is, I sold all my cars at the right time... or sent them for scrap a little after the right time to sell.

The car that I will, in the future, regret not buying now: Porsche 928 S4.

I could 'afford' a half-decent one, but it's the not-decent other half that scares me.

Only car that I really wish I had kept is my 2CV. 944 S2, MkII GTi and Audi 90q 20v were fun and sold for low but that's life.

Wish I had kept my Redline BMX too, that was lovely and doubtless got trashed under the ownership of the lad from school I sold it to. Grr.

Hindsight being the amazing thing is is, I shouldn't have sold either of my 2 decent mk1 MX5s. Both K plates, both Eunos imports, both immaculate, one a lowered big exhausted go-kart and the other shod with BBS RS wheels, hardtop, Nardi wood steering wheel etc. Sold them both for less than buying one would cost now... ah well...

BMW E30 325i sport - went for peanuts when we needed room for prams and all that accompanies the military operation of two small children and going out to the shops/daytrips.

Mk1 Classic Mini - to be fair it was a rolling shell that needed restoration but the irony is I had to sell it as I couldn't afford to keep the lockdown it was in as I was living away on a restoration course. (Although any of the six Mini/Vans/Estates I had I wouldn't mind now)

Disc valve 125cc two stroke - see above

Mk1 1600 Vauxhall Tigra - was bloody lovely to drive once I'd had the geometry done (and it stopped tramlining and following chambers!), 106bhp from a 1600 was a bit poor, that was begging to be tuned. Traded in for buttons, two months later it would've qualified for the scrappage scheme.
