Spent the morning visiting a friend at an addiction recovery centre for veterans.
Puts a lot of the STW bickering into perspective.
I’m sure Harry would hug you for your support for your friend. His support for veteran causes seems wholly genuine, with real empathy and understanding. Good on you.
Your admirable efforts won’t silence dissent about the King’s big day and it’s place in our society though.
Daughter just gives it ‘Will the real Camilla please stand up’ 🤣
Daughter just gives it ‘Will the real Camilla please stand up’
They don't stand once crowned, they drop to all fours and scuttle away thrashing their tails and climb into the rafters.
Lizards eh?
rather than discuss in a grown up manner, or just accept that their views make no difference to your day to day life?
Grown up manner? You mean strawman, misrepresent and come out with passive aggressive insults.
Which I suspect is what happened the previous time you are whining about before people got irritated with it and got more pointed with you.
Your admirable efforts won’t silence dissent about the King’s big day and it’s place in our society though
Wonder how many years of operation for a veterans centre charlies dress up day could have covered.
You should 'Make A Joyful Noise' (composed by Andrew Lloyd-Weber)
All hail King Charles III
Long live King Charles III !
Pray tell, where did I say I’m going to a massive party?
I took it from this:
The bunting is for the whole of my road every other house has it. There is a massive party in our small town tomorrow bringing many people together, I hope they all enjoy themselves.
I didn't realise that, having sold them bunting, you'd be tutting vigorously from behind your curtains at the spectacle so I stand corrected.
Personally I hope those enjoying themselves take at least a few moments to think of those arrested for no good reason.
Jeez I'm agreeing with chewk!
Today on FB so many of the companies we deal with have posted how they were helped to start by The Prince's Trust.
Best disguise of the day goes to…

Looks like the bloke from the Beastie Boy Sabotage video.
Best disguise of the day goes to
Christ, camilla looks a bit rough there.
Looks like Dec from Ant and Dec, are they doing one of their jolly tv japes ? 😂

STW whatabouttery at its finest. The government wouldn't fund them with or without a monarchy.
That's why these orgs exist: to fill the gaps left by subsequent governments of all colours who've broken the covenant with those who've served.
I'd ask you not to use the suffering of my friends amd colleagues to further your argument, tad disrespectful and a failure of political & military leadership.
Your admirable efforts won’t silence dissent about the King’s big day and it’s place in our society though.
No interest in changing anyones mind. It is after all just an Internet forum.
I’d ask you not to use the suffering of my friends amd colleagues to further your argument, tad disrespectful.
I was responding to you putting it in this thread.
I assumed you had thought it was relevant for some reason?
I do agree a separate discussion would be required about the failure of funding for long term support (I do think every vote for military action for example should include a specific x million for x years section for support to make the MPs think).
Working 8-6 today, tomorrow and bank holiday Monday so not paying attention to some fella being told to reign over us.
Old man sits on chair gets hat and will rain all over us.
I feel the monarchy is one of the defining things that makes us British (particularly at an international level), like it or not.
I feel that a supposedly developed country being defined by a hereditary monarchy in the 21st century is a bit daft.
But, different strokes for different folks, and all that.
Just turned the radio on after getting back from my Saturday am ride. The singing is compelling stuff - take away the meaning and it sounds great in its own right.
I feel like composing a ceremonial march for when we rejoin the EU.
I'd ask you not to use the suffering of my friends amd colleagues to further your argument, tad disrespectful and a failure of political & military leadership.
But your friends and colleagues are cool with you using their suffering to further your own arguments?
You are the one who decided to bring them into this debate, remember.
I can see Penny Mordaunt getting a lot of positives from this, think she might be the new ‘Maggie’!
As for the we whole thing, not my cup of tea, but I have a short attention span, reality is a lot of the nation live this stuff, and if it makes folk happy then that’s good enough for me.
But your friends and colleagues are cool with you using their suffering to further your own arguments?
And what argument is that? I merely stated it puts the bickering in perspective.
And some of them would be, they're very pro-monarchy, even pro-tory. But that's not what I'm doing.
And what argument is that? I merely stated it puts the bickering in perspective.
Yes, you're trying to belittle those who are arguing against the monarchy and for the right to protest against the monarchy. Which is pretty shitty when we are discussing people being illegally detained and the general erosion of the right to any sort of protest.

Am I? Maybe you could point to where I either said or even inferred that?
Puts a lot of the STW bickering into perspective.
What is that if not belittling the people discussing serious issues on this thread.
Not my king, not my country.
dyna-ti
Hope you have a lovely time. Mind and steal something as a souvenir.
Oh, please. "Steal" is such an ugly word to choose when you could say "accept a gift".

I feel like composing a ceremonial march for when we rejoin the EU.
I'm getting carried away with this thought. I've already got various musical pieces in mind for the big day.
I'm particularly looking forward to the ceremonial procession where a moderately beaten Farage and Johnson are led naked whilst strapped across donkey's backs through London and especially Brixton. Free rancid fruit will be provided and the music will be a rearrangement of the Benny Hill Show theme. This is before they arrive at London Bridge to be symbolically flushed out of the Thames estuary in a small dinghy with some holes in it to the tune of Ode To Joy.
You're reaching a little there if you've taken it as belittling those discussing, not as slight against those bickering?
Odd. But you do like a good Internet ruck so it's not surprising you'd take it that way.
Not my king, not my country.
..err, i'd check your history book...
The reason for the union is based on us having the same head of state

I'd prefer if they were clamped into stocks on the back of a flatbed, like a carnival float. I wouldn't want the donkeys getting hit by fruit.
..err, i’d check your history book…
and with that this thread gets wrecked 🙁
Watching with a slight delay here in Australia.
But joined the nation, reciting together:
“IS THAT FLOELLA BENJAMIN?!?”
Thought I was being an accidental racist - but no, the great lady herself.
I’d prefer if they were clamped into stocks on the back of a flatbed, like a carnival float. I wouldn’t want the donkeys getting hit by fruit.
Good point. I'll put Michael Gove in charge of coming up with a technology solution for shielding the donkeys from fruit. I'm sure it will be fine.
Failing that, then the flatbed truck is a good idea - it could be an emergency back up in case the dinghy sank too soon too. Stick em back on the truck and drive them out into the Thames at low tide. Then let renewables take care of the rest.
👍
Oh, please. “Steal” is such an ugly word to choose when you could say “accept a gift”.
Or 'procure via a VIP lane'.
It all feels too late, Charles has been desperate to be king for so long,
I think it's such a shame that his mum died just before she got to watch it all.
Surely the fact that other religions are going to be involved and reflected already has certain sections choking on their anti-woke cornflakes.
I've only drifted past as it's "on" whilst I've been doing the hoovering, but there was lot of "god" and "son of god" going on in the bits I saw, didn't hear Allah get a mention.
The official dish is a spinach and tarragon quiche? WTAF.
It was a competition winner, Masterchef or something similar.
Pre-emptive arrests too, seemingly no actual crime committed.
“Conspiracy to cause public nuisance” apparently. Can't help but feel that's a tad Minority Report.
..err, i’d check your history book…
Some nice history for a rainy day. This was the fate of the last Prince of Wales:
"On 30 September, Dafydd ap Gruffudd, Prince of Wales, was condemned to death, the first person known to have been tried and executed for what from that time onwards would be described as high treason against the King. Edward ensured that Dafydd's death was slow and agonising, and also historic; he became the first prominent person in recorded history to have been hanged, drawn and quartered. Dafydd was dragged through the streets of Shrewsbury attached to a horse's tail, then hanged alive, revived, then disembowelled and his entrails burned before him for "his sacrilege in committing his crimes in the week of Christ's passion", and then his body cut into four-quarters "for plotting the king's death"."
I’d prefer if they were clamped into stocks on the back of a flatbed, like a carnival float. I wouldn’t want the donkeys getting hit by fruit.
I would prefer it is Farage was ceremoniously slapped with a garlic and coriander naan.
BruceWee - No I didn't make the neighbour's bunting, possibly bought from a supermarket and made in China, they put it up off their own bats.
Well I thought the horses were so well behaved.
didn’t hear Allah get a mention
Always wanting things done Yahweh aren't you?
Actually that did make me chuckle out loud.
..err, i’d check your history book…
and with that this thread gets wrecked 🙁
I am intrigued......how does what is presumably a reference to the Acts of Union "wreck" the thread?
I am sure that the thread will plod along merrily with varying levels of bickering.
Christ, camilla looks a bit rough there.
It's not Camilla, it's Rod Hull. Anyway back to Zwift.
Always wanting things done Yahweh aren’t you?
OK, that was good. 👏
It’s not Camilla, it’s Rod Hull.
"We are not emused"?
..err, i’d check your history book…
or his Big Red book, he’s English but lives in Edinburgh and has adopted all things Scottish, a traitor to the crown! 😉
“We are not emused”?
Wallaby damned.
The really good thing about that is that it is probably pronounced like that by the plummy classes.
I worked with a bloke from NZ years ago. I picked him up on something he'd said and his retort was "at least I don't talk like I've got a c*ck in my mouth". As retorts go, I thought it was quite good, certainly took the wind out of my sails. 🤭
Anyway - happy Coronation Day, everyone. 😂
and with that this thread gets wrecked
I'm not sure it was particularly serious and earnest in any case...?
Isn't TJ too busy stonewalling everyone into submission on the local election thread anyway?
I doubt anyone has got the energy for that across multiple threads. Certainly not whilst wielding a claymore, tossing cabers and stalking wild haggis on the hillsides.
Good grief. All those silly outfits. It made game of thrones look like a documentary. They even made sure all those who disagree we’re locked up out of the eay
I’m not sure it was particularly serious and earnest in any case…?
I don't think it was, but it did look a little like deliberate provocation. You'd get arrested for even just thinking that in London today 🙁
Oooh, here comes Harry in his Apache
Hope already fading for a long reign
'The greater good...'
All those silly outfits. It made game of thrones look like a documentary.
No-one expected Penny Mordaunt's turn as Brienne of Tarth, though.
Good grief. All those silly outfits.
Always worth referring to Gandhi and his quip about the King's regalia.
Turns out you can have gravitas and a ready wit without a furry gold dressing gown and a metal hat. 🤷♂️
even some roman emperors realised their own issue wouldn't cut the mustard.
Looks like the bloke from the Beastie Boy Sabotage video.
It's composer Karl Jenkins
One time member of Soft Machine

What did I miss 😉

It’s composer Karl Jenkins
Wales' greatest ever composer of music for banks ads.
You’d get arrested for even just thinking that in London today
Now, now, we've all had to make concessions so that The Big Day goes off without incident. I'll bet Prince Andrew was told firmly that his ball and sceptre were to be kept under wraps. At least until the after party.
Penny Mordaunt
Magnificent hair. I mean, lustrous. That's leadership material right there.
Take two bottles into the shower? Not when you're packing the kind of mane that would make Simba jealous, you woke weakling.
The sheer daftness of The Big Day is getting to me, I think.
did you see floella Benjamin?!?!
No but I did ask Ant & Dec if they were ready to rumble....
Saw a fair few of the celebs as the aisle was the way to the loos.
That guy with the tash ☝️ had a massive fur coat on in the line waiting at security....
I was sat behind the choir on the blue dot roughy...

I didn't watch or listen to any of it but the question must be asked - was the theme from Dragnet considered for Charles walking up the aisle?
Karl Jenkins looks like sober Boris Johnson…
did you see floella Benjamin?!?!
Flotilla was there? Bugger, I'm going to have to watch the coverage now.
She had to carry a sceptre? Can't remember why. Just skip to the initial procession (about 10:45am...)
I saw about two minutes of it as he left the church. Nice to see the Holy hand grenade of Antioch getting a run out.
was the theme from Dragnet considered for Charles walking up the aisle?
I would have thought 'dueling banjos' would have been more appropriate.
Karl Jenkins looks like sober Boris Johnson…
Can anyone remember what that looks like?
somehow I’m early to everything…..
Oooh. Get reading those place cards and see if there are any obvious "she can't be sat near him" arrangements to mess with. Mind you, I doubt Virginia Giuffre snagged an invite.
The place cards were all generic - please don't take photos cards....

Doing my best Wallace & grommet grin trying not to get caught taking photos – somehow I’m early to everything…..
I like that suit. Maybe it’s the light - it it’s looking like an appropriately regal colour
My first blue suit, bought for the garden party last year, it's got a purple check which doesn't come out in the photos.
Prob won't get used for while, next wedding invite etc...
The place cards were all generic – please don’t take photos cards….
Taking a photo of a don't take photos card?
The Tower awaits.
I mean you've actually gone and done something you're not supposed to. Unlike the people arrested who, presumably, Plod though looked like they might do something.
Enjoy the quiche.
Oh, and if you see her, tell Penny Mordaunt to flick her hair even more - like Caroline Flint used to. It'll get a swoon from the gammons every time.
Nice suit, BTW.
FWIW you've been good value on this thread. 👍
Saw a fair few of the celebs as the aisle was the way to the loos.
Well that sort of addresses a question I had - all those elderly folk forced to sit for hours, and not everyone with a robe to hide a Nalgene bottle.
The invites all said 'limited access to toilets between 9-10 only' ..... However there were toilets at security and in Westminster abbey, initially lengthy queues from what I heard. Thankfully I've trained myself to not need a wee from 8:30-5 running my shop so Ive only just gone....
I was expecting an abbey full of adult nappies and tenor lady/man. Or lots of nervous bums on seats at least.
Did completely forget to have breakfast, only just finished lunch. And took the opportunity for a 💦😂

😁
More first hand photos of the day please monkeyboyjc, they’re making me smile. Official coverage just tickles my cynical bone.

Empty streets at 5:45am....

Queues for security, I'm at the front, it goes over to the other side of London bridge? When we are let in.

Police playing in the adjacent play park 'looking for suspicious packages apparently' 😂

Board already - an hour of waiting

Through security
Loving the fact that the government bring in further restrictions on protests and so many seem to be blaming it on Charles. He is not the reason the government did it.
We want our land back and share the wealth.
I look forward to your explanation as to what you are going to do with your share. Just as soon as you've done some research on how successful those kind of policies have been in places like the Soviet Union, Zimbabwe etc.
(A warning on unintended consequences, not a pro landowners position)
More smiles…

Outside the abbey

Houses of parliament, also saw the speaker, but failed to take a photo.

Self-explanatory selfie

Press 'house' in distance

After the ceremony.
