Spent the morning visiting a friend at an addiction recovery centre for veterans.

Puts a lot of the STW bickering into perspective.

I’m sure Harry would hug you for your support for your friend. His support for veteran causes seems wholly genuine, with real empathy and understanding. Good on you.

Your admirable efforts won’t silence dissent about the King’s big day and it’s place in our society though.

They don't stand once crowned, they drop to all fours and scuttle away thrashing their tails and climb into the rafters.

Lizards eh?

rather than discuss in a grown up manner, or just accept that their views make no difference to your day to day life?

Grown up manner? You mean strawman, misrepresent and come out with passive aggressive insults.
Which I suspect is what happened the previous time you are whining about before people got irritated with it and got more pointed with you.

Pray tell, where did I say I’m going to a massive party?

I took it from this:

The bunting is for the whole of my road every other house has it. There is a massive party in our small town tomorrow bringing many people together, I hope they all enjoy themselves.

I didn't realise that, having sold them bunting, you'd be tutting vigorously from behind your curtains at the spectacle so I stand corrected.

Personally I hope those enjoying themselves take at least a few moments to think of those arrested for no good reason.

STW whatabouttery at its finest. The government wouldn't fund them with or without a monarchy.

That's why these orgs exist: to fill the gaps left by subsequent governments of all colours who've broken the covenant with those who've served.

I'd ask you not to use the suffering of my friends amd colleagues to further your argument, tad disrespectful and a failure of political & military leadership.

I was responding to you putting it in this thread.
I assumed you had thought it was relevant for some reason?
I do agree a separate discussion would be required about the failure of funding for long term support (I do think every vote for military action for example should include a specific x million for x years section for support to make the MPs think).

I feel the monarchy is one of the defining things that makes us British (particularly at an international level), like it or not.

I feel that a supposedly developed country being defined by a hereditary monarchy in the 21st century is a bit daft.

But, different strokes for different folks, and all that.

Just turned the radio on after getting back from my Saturday am ride. The singing is compelling stuff - take away the meaning and it sounds great in its own right.

I feel like composing a ceremonial march for when we rejoin the EU.

I can see Penny Mordaunt getting a lot of positives from this, think she might be the new ‘Maggie’!

As for the we whole thing, not my cup of tea, but I have a short attention span, reality is a lot of the nation live this stuff, and if it makes folk happy then that’s good enough for me.

And what argument is that? I merely stated it puts the bickering in perspective.

And some of them would be, they're very pro-monarchy, even pro-tory. But that's not what I'm doing.

Yes, you're trying to belittle those who are arguing against the monarchy and for the right to protest against the monarchy. Which is pretty shitty when we are discussing people being illegally detained and the general erosion of the right to any sort of protest.

I'm getting carried away with this thought. I've already got various musical pieces in mind for the big day.

I'm particularly looking forward to the ceremonial procession where a moderately beaten Farage and Johnson are led naked whilst strapped across donkey's backs through London and especially Brixton. Free rancid fruit will be provided and the music will be a rearrangement of the Benny Hill Show theme. This is before they arrive at London Bridge to be symbolically flushed out of the Thames estuary in a small dinghy with some holes in it to the tune of Ode To Joy.

I'd prefer if they were clamped into stocks on the back of a flatbed, like a carnival float. I wouldn't want the donkeys getting hit by fruit.

Good point. I'll put Michael Gove in charge of coming up with a technology solution for shielding the donkeys from fruit. I'm sure it will be fine.

Failing that, then the flatbed truck is a good idea - it could be an emergency back up in case the dinghy sank too soon too. Stick em back on the truck and drive them out into the Thames at low tide. Then let renewables take care of the rest.

👍

It all feels too late, Charles has been desperate to be king for so long,

I think it's such a shame that his mum died just before she got to watch it all.

Surely the fact that other religions are going to be involved and reflected already has certain sections choking on their anti-woke cornflakes.

I've only drifted past as it's "on" whilst I've been doing the hoovering, but there was lot of "god" and "son of god" going on in the bits I saw, didn't hear Allah get a mention.

The official dish is a spinach and tarragon quiche? WTAF.

It was a competition winner, Masterchef or something similar.

Pre-emptive arrests too, seemingly no actual crime committed.

“Conspiracy to cause public nuisance” apparently. Can't help but feel that's a tad Minority Report.

Some nice history for a rainy day. This was the fate of the last Prince of Wales:

"On 30 September, Dafydd ap Gruffudd, Prince of Wales, was condemned to death, the first person known to have been tried and executed for what from that time onwards would be described as high treason against the King. Edward ensured that Dafydd's death was slow and agonising, and also historic; he became the first prominent person in recorded history to have been hanged, drawn and quartered. Dafydd was dragged through the streets of Shrewsbury attached to a horse's tail, then hanged alive, revived, then disembowelled and his entrails burned before him for "his sacrilege in committing his crimes in the week of Christ's passion", and then his body cut into four-quarters "for plotting the king's death"."

Wallaby damned.

The really good thing about that is that it is probably pronounced like that by the plummy classes.

I worked with a bloke from NZ years ago. I picked him up on something he'd said and his retort was "at least I don't talk like I've got a c*ck in my mouth". As retorts go, I thought it was quite good, certainly took the wind out of my sails. 🤭

Anyway - happy Coronation Day, everyone. 😂

Isn't TJ too busy stonewalling everyone into submission on the local election thread anyway?

I doubt anyone has got the energy for that across multiple threads. Certainly not whilst wielding a claymore, tossing cabers and stalking wild haggis on the hillsides.

Now, now, we've all had to make concessions so that The Big Day goes off without incident. I'll bet Prince Andrew was told firmly that his ball and sceptre were to be kept under wraps. At least until the after party.

Penny Mordaunt

Magnificent hair. I mean, lustrous. That's leadership material right there.

I mean you've actually gone and done something you're not supposed to. Unlike the people arrested who, presumably, Plod though looked like they might do something.

The invites all said 'limited access to toilets between 9-10 only' ..... However there were  toilets at security and in Westminster abbey, initially lengthy queues from what I heard. Thankfully I've trained myself to not need a wee from 8:30-5 running my shop so Ive only just gone....

I was expecting an abbey full of adult nappies and tenor lady/man. Or lots of nervous bums on seats at least.

Did completely forget to have breakfast, only just finished lunch. And took the opportunity for a 💦😂

Loving the fact that the government bring in further restrictions on protests and so many seem to be blaming it on Charles. He is not the reason the government did it.

We want our land back and share the wealth.

I look forward to your explanation as to what you are going to do with your share. Just as soon as you've done some research on how successful those kind of policies have been in places like the Soviet Union, Zimbabwe etc.
