I thought it was may Day – international workers day
You're shit out if it is, May Day was two days ago.
Some **** at work today said oh yes but you are happy to have the day off aren’t you…well actually I’d happily come into work if they’d have me in the opposite of a strike if that were an option.
I would happily give up this bank holiday in exchange for the abolition of the monarchy. Sounds like a fair deal to me

It's rumoured that Royal robes won't be worn - apparently he's wearing military dress uniform. No tiara's and gowns for princesses either. It's day dresses and suits, much like a royal wedding.
Ermine is stoat pelt
would you be happy parading around in mustelid pubes?
parading around in mustelid pubes
Now that would be a great name for an album.
I'd reserve it for your difficult second album after the 6 year hiatus
As always, the Daily Mash nails it.

So a different part of the fancy dress box then, armed with all the medals from mummy for existing. The leaders prof many banana republics round the world must be delighted he is joining them as a fake military man

Can you lay out details of your service in the Forces so we can compare?

Can you lay out details of your service in the Forces so we can compare?
Precisely none what so ever. But then I’m not wandering round in the highest ranking uniform going with a chest full of medals given to me by my mother pretending that I have served in the armed services for 40 years
Personally I can think of no better way to celebrate this cost of living crisis than watching a man in an expensive carriage bimble to a church in a bling hat. Where he’ll be surrounded by pointless expensive artefacts from a bygone era.
And all for a mere 1/4 billion pounds of taxpayers money.
fake military man
After passing out from RAF Cranwell as a fixed wing pilot in 1971, he then joined the Navy and after qualifying, he served on a destroyer HMS Norfolk then two frigates, HMS Minerva and HMS Jupiter. In 1974 he qualified as a helicopter pilot and flew Wessex for the commandos from HMS Hermes. In 1976 he took command of a minehunter HMS Bronington.
You can call that 'fake' if you like, insulting anyone who has similar service, but tbh having never served your critique of how valid any veteran's service is, is utterly worthless.
I’m not wandering round in the highest ranking uniform going
Do you get different uniforms when you change rank? I thought it was pips or stripes or something.
Dress uniform might be different I suppose. It's a genuine question, it's not really something I know a great deal (or indeed, anything) about.

He made Field Marshal, Admiral of the Fleet and Marshal of the RAF on merit, did he? Won his 15 year long service medal in five! 🙂

At relatively junior rank, both commissioned and non commissioned it's mostly just the rank insignia ('pips and stripes') which changes. For senior officers there are embellishments such as red collar tabs for brigadiers and above in the army. The RAF and Navy have similar 'bling' for their senior officers.

No, and I've never heard anyone claim he did. They are honorary, ceremonial ranks because as King he is commander in chief of the armed forces.
I'm not arguing that some of his medals aren't a bit dubious, my issue was with someone falsely claiming his military service is 'fake' when he did genuinely serve. It is an insult to others who also served.
Precisely none what so ever. But then I’m not wandering round in the highest ranking uniform going with a chest full of medals given to me by my mother pretending that I have served in the armed services for 40 years
I think you've shown that that particular argument is based on ignorance then.
So much better than TV tonight. @cougar, you sharing that popcorn?

Don't forget the badges!

That's cos there are 3 lizard years to every human year...
Here is a list of all his titles and medals and shit.
Includes such beauties as :
Knight of the Order of the Elephant - Denmark
Sovereign of the Imperial Order of the Crown of India - UK
Sovereign of the Order of the National Hero - Belieze
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_titles_and_honours_of_Charles_III
Knight of the Order of the Elephant – Denmark
That's defo my fave. I need that on my rack for sure.
TJ that list is bonkers! My fave is: "Sash of Special Category of the Order of the Aztec Eagle" 😂

or as I prefer made up ranks so he can play dress up like the head of a banana republic and wear lots of medals with very silly names his mummy gave him. Even trump drew the line at silly uniforms as commander in chief

His mummy did not give him those foreign titles with the silly names. Just the British ones with silly names.
And if you really think the royal families love of shiny baubles makes them the same as Colonel Ghadaffi or Idi Amin, I think you need to have a little think
I think you need to have a little think
I believe I see the problem here.
Have we read Nick Cave's explanation why he accepted his invite?
And if you really think the royal families love of shiny baubles makes them the same as Colonel Ghadaffi or Idi Amin, I think you need to have a little think
They didn't say it made the royal family like Ghadaffi or Amin. They said Charles was "dress[ing] up like the head of a banana republic", which is true. It's comical how he looks. But quite unlike Ghadaffi and Amin, who were not heads of banana republics, and who unlike Charles had long and remarkable military careers (immediately prior to their political demise, at least...)
Have we read Nick Cave’s explanation why he accepted his invite?
I did link to it earlier but don't know if anyone (other than you and I) read it.
Is he also the flyer of rogue drones over the Kremlin?
All hail King Charles III!
Done.
shiny baubles makes them the same as Colonel Ghadaffi
I have never understood why Colonel Ghadaffi never made himself a least a two star general, never mind a field marshal.
Perhaps he was just more humble than Charlie Windsor?
Btw one of the medals that Charlie wears with pride is his 'Naval Long Service Good Conduct' medal and to be fair keeping his nose clean during his naval days is quite an achievement - getting up to all sorts of arrestable offences whilst on shore leave after months at sea is only too common.
And I believe the then future monarch was awarded the Garter Star, which he also proudly wears, in 1958, that's also quite an achievement as he was only 10 years old.
Prince Charles was named Royal Knight Companion of the Order of the Garter in 1958, in what was the same year he was given the Prince of Wales title.
or as I prefer made up ranks so he can play dress up like the head of a banana republic and wear lots of medals
Its more the other way round. They are the ones with the banana republic head way back in the family tree (or given many royal families approach to breeding the family bush).
Get yourself in charge for a few centuries and things like massacring a bunch of locals to provoke the old king into fighting before having had a proper rest and then destroying large parts of your new kingdom either get swept under the carpet.
Best be careful not to pledge allegiance to the king to loudly near any normans. Ended badly the first time that got tried.
here in the colonies, you wouldn't know it was happening. we're even getting his face (slowly) off the monies
I'm working the bank holiday but it's not so bad, double time and a day in lieu 👌
Well my suit is ready....😉
I've a new bike coming tomorrow (I hope), so I'm having to delay fitting an invisframe kit until Sunday/Monday 🙄
Btw one of the medals that Charlie wears with pride is his ‘Naval Long Service Good Conduct’ medal
Now that does sound like it might be a dodgy award, in terms of service criteria for Officers;
To qualify, you must have:
15 years’ reckonable service in the Navy
a clear record with no misconduct for at least the last 15 years
been serving on or after 29 July 2014, if you’re an officer
Father in law was on one of his boats - said he was o.k and still recognised and chatted to him when he gave him an mbe many years later.
And all for a mere 1/4 billion pounds of taxpayers money.
Just don’t ask where the money is coming from…reckon we have enough of those threads already
Just had a quick Google of estimates for the "economic boost" of the coronation.
Results seem to depend on the source - CNN quote a report estimating £337m, the Daily Mail is up to £8bn 🤣
I’ve a new bike coming tomorrow (I hope), so I’m having to delay fitting an invisframe kit until Sunday/Monday
New bike day pics with it propped outside Westminster Abbey please.

The LS&GC was always said to be awarded for "15 years of undiscovered crime". Something you got because all your brawling, boozing, and general mischief had stayed just below the radar.
Until relatively recently it was only awarded to 'other ranks'. The rationale being that an officer's conduct was always beyond reproach and they didn't need to be rewarded for it, unlike the oiks in the ranks! 😂
I think eventually they got a bit 'Mutley' about it, realised there was a medal they were missing out on and changed the rules. Acknowledging in the process that Ruperts could be ****s too!
“15 years of undiscovered crime”.
The matelot in the family referred to it as “no crimes detected”.
Our LSGCM is the only medal I own, I declined the recent jubilee one (although I have a box of them in my safe at work which just haven’t been collected by the recipients if anyone needs a decoration for the weekend).
Even trump drew the line at silly uniforms as commander in chief
Only because too many folks know about "Cadet Bone-spurs" I reckon if he thought for just a minute that he could get away with it; he'd be wearing a uniform that would make a North Korean General blush.
Turned the BBC news on this morning to catch up on the news, only to see the propaganda. I normally dont watch ITV, but at least thought it was have something much more relevant to discuss ie Keith Lemons 50th birthday bash, but no, wall to wall propaganda too.
At least someone somewhere is doing their job right for the Royals.
Turned the BBC news on this morning to catch up on the news, only to see the propaganda
Reports on 5Live seem to alternate between pro royal propaganda and lots of people saying it's out of date and the youngsters want rid.
Though I've decided the best reason to get rid of the royals is it would mean we wouldn't have any royal correspondents
If the annihilation of the Royals is the catalyst for Nick Witchell's removal from our screens it's okay with me
Even Chucky v3 called him a "Ghoulish man"
Though I’ve decided the best reason to get rid of the royals is it would mean we wouldn’t have any royal correspondents
That is a more compelling argument than most others put forward by ardent republicans. I do wish there was a commentary free option (other than the mute button) for these sorts of things.
Just saw this on Twitter:
you know, I've been utterly unmoved by the whole coronation thing, but it just dawned on me that somewhere Boris Johnson is seething about the fact he isn't prime minister right now and that has genuinely made me warm to the whole thing
I think the furore/hoohah/hullabaloo over the stone of destiny perfectly illustrates the utter ridiculousness of the whole sorry spectacle.
"It's a ****ing rock, mate..."
I do wish there was a commentary free option (other than the mute button) for these sorts of things.
There was commentary free viewing of the Queen's funeral so perhaps there will be - BBC iPlayer or red button perhaps.
Well my windows are decorated, bunting is up...

And my invite is on display so all of the community who want to see it can...

Also it's NBD for me (NBD thread coming soon)..... So today is a good day 😀😝
Apologies if its been covered above, I'm not going back beyond a couple of pages, but what is the reason for the invite @monkeyboyjc ?
I was awarded a BEM in 2021 new years honours for services to the community during COVID - I'm one of the 450 members of the public invited. Essentially there to represent the people in the area.
It's why I'm hesitant to get involved in the discussion.
Jonathon Dimbleby just been on R4 suggesting that the pledge hasn't been asked for by Chas and is the work of the Archbishop.
Wondering if this is an attempt to distance Chas from it following the reaction but I can't believe that Chas hasn't approved it
It has always been reported as having been added to the ceremony by the Archbishop but yes, the Palace must have approved it.
Was covered at the start of QT last night, interesting views on both sides of the debate.
It would have been approved - it's cirtainly something that would have been scripted in as the main way of shortening the ceremony, KC would have been totally aware. Sounds like the royal pr team trying to distance themselves.
I don't think that the Archbishop or anyone in the RF would have even given it two thoughts of being bad for pr - it's the press that have swung it that way they, the RF, are now trying to claw it back by swinging rocks at each other.
Didn't you get a "+1"?
Not many get a +1, not even cabinet ministers - although I think Sunaks wife is attending. There's only 2k seats.... If the 'dignitaries' took +1's, there wouldn't be space for members of the public.
You are a dignitary for the day
I think the furore/hoohah/hullabaloo over the stone of destiny perfectly illustrates the utter ridiculousness of the whole sorry spectacle.
“It’s a **** rock, mate…”
But it's a fake rock!
My uncle swears the real one is being used as a cistern cover in his flat in Partick!
monkeyboyjc - gorgeous invitation.
Looking forward to hearing how it goes from an insiders view. Can you sneak your phone in and keep STW (ok only me then) in the loop.
Enjoy.
Are we calling him KC now? Is there an associated Sunshine Band?
Not many get a +1, not even cabinet ministers – although I think Sunaks wife is attending.
Are we sure Sunak isn't his wife's +1? He is the junior member of that particular power couple, after all.
I’m disappointed the invitation isn’t addressed to your official title of @monkeyboyjc
If I was invited I'd go - whatever you think of it, its a spectacle that many of us will only ever see the once. And whatever your views on the monarchy a huge congratulations to monkeyboyjc for getting invited! I hope you have a fantastic time and savour every moment of the experience!
errrmmmm…
Starkey has form.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-53279273
"Slavery was not genocide otherwise there wouldn't be so many damn blacks in Africa or Britain would there? An awful lot of them survived." [2020]
...
In 2011, the BBC received nearly 700 complaints about Starkey's claim that "whites have become black", during a Newsnight discussion about riots in the UK.
This article by Martin Kettle is a good take on the ceremony itself and what it says.
But there is so much more to it. What he (probably out of charity) leaves out is that the vast majority of frothers who would resist any amendments wouldn't have the first clue that anything had been changed unless they'd had it pointed out to them by the likes of the Mail. Just like all the tattooed crushers who were 'outraged' by Rule Britannia being an instrumental at the Last Night of the Proms. I doubt very much they were avid prommers or even watched the last night anyway - it just gave them something more to be angry about - especially when blamed on 'wokes' or limpwrists or Socialist sleeper agents etc.
Starkey has form.
Vile man. Eloquent and intelligent enough to know exactly what each word will do. No excuses for him based on ambiguity or intended vs real meaning.
But I bet he's all for the continuation of the unelected Germano-Greek royal family. Hypocritical swine.
Can you sneak your phone in
Yes - but I can't take photos/videos. It'll be selfies out side only.
It’s why I’m hesitant to get involved in the discussion.
Pourquoi?
Your views are your views.
disgusting thing to say, though you could say it's "chickens coming home to roost" as Rishi has had ample opportunity to slap down Cruella for similar language about immigrants.
Your views are your views.
Seems pointless, as my first post said - nothing will change peoples views of the monarchy or the even when you point out that the thread title was an invitation rather than a request people just get more angry and fixated
I'd take a dump on that invitation and send it back. Sickening.
Its really nothing to be proud of, or boast about, being invited by a flawed, warped, sick, scrounging family who befriend and strive to protect the worst of society and then brush it off like a child would do claiming that they didn't know when exposed. Their own actions alone are enough to warrant disgust never mind those they choose to get matey with and protect.
Homeless people in every town/city centre, kids starving, millions in poverty and they laud this event as if its something to be proud of? Its one of the most embarrassing and shameful things we'll ever witness.
Those going, watching and in support of this sham are the most two faced, ignorant people this country has to offer. Brainwashed and deluded doesn't even come close.
Got out of bed on the wrong side this morning?
Is there a buffet?
No, limited toilet access too ..
@jhinwxm thanks for your continued contribution to the forum, and to society. I'll be having a nice day. I hope u do too.
