Sidney Sweeney's acting

That's a different kind of chest burster.

The only interest I have in the whole series is with the eyeball.

I see you.😉

Joking aside I forgot to mention something another poster  alluded to.

An alien, even when done well, simply isn't the terrifying creature of the 70's when it's seen in broad daylight in a beautifully green jungle.

Scott became a bit of a meme for it I suppose but less really is more. From Bladerunner to Alien, lovely bright scenery rids us of the fear of the darkness that is innate in all of us. It's easy to forget just how dark the setting was in Alien. Sure, it hid a million sins but just like a good book it let us paint our own shade of horror.

Meanwhile... how many egg pods are left in the lab?

I was waiting for a closing shot of some Yutani troops meeting face huggers.

So, all of this talk of GenV got me interested and I have just started season 2.

Spoiler
Ehhh?
I was like 'ehh?', when did Marie escape, when did Andre die? I had no idea the actor (Chance Permodo) had died in a motorbike accident in real like and they had to re-write most of the series.

It's pretty good though – it hasn't held my attention quite so much as Alien: Earth did, but it's still very enjoyable.

I waited till the full season was out before reading much about it... I like it but some of it is so utterly stupid...

I know, we'll get some dangerous organisms and give a bunch of kids unsupervised acess to them... I mean, come on...

Is that a "plot hole" or the "whole point" though? The arrogance of one man with ultimate power in his own far reaching organisation. He both thinks his new creations can handle anything... and also doesn't really care what damage might be done do the Earth and all the people on it if they fail. He likes tearing things up. He likes destruction. He likes making monsters. He's excited by new monsters from elsewhere. He has a complete distain for all other humans. The whole point is that he's the problem here, no? Hoping to see more of the monsters running the other 4 corporations in more series.

Yeah, the look on his face at the end when Wendy said 'now we rule' suggested that he was rather looking forward to seeing what will happen next 🙂

I do wonder if it will turn out that he has inserted some programming into them so he can control them – he's just chosen not to do it yet.

Finished it the other night.

Slightly flawed and uneven but pretty good overall, maybe an 8/10 from me (mainstream viewer, not a sci-fi purist/pedant).

Will watch the next series, but won't be counting the days.

Indeed. And we learnt...

Spoiler
...that when younger he...
...made an android to kill and replace his own father. He's not just careless when it comes to risks for the human race, he couldn't care less about them.

I actually thought that after posting my post...
It's a bit of a shitty low effort plot vehicle though.

I'm being overly harsh.. It's entertaining I'll give it that.

I've still got 3 episodes of season one to go through though.

I guess I just yearn for the epicness of the first two movies and I think it's in danger of turning into more of a soap opera.

Maybe. But it has a strong resonance right now, as we seem to be leaving it to a few very powerful men to decide how embedded AI will be, and what controls (if any) should be placed on it (and them).

But neither of those movies would have made a good series – people would have stopped watching new episodes after the first couple because nothing really happened. With a series, there has to be lots of sub-plots and reveals in each episode to keep the viewer interested.

Sure, but if you take the alien/sci-fi theme away, this could easily be a series of Eastenders or Hollyoaks.

All stories are variations on seven basic plots.

Having watched the entire series - I found the cliffhangers vs the next episode time jump quite jarring & like I had skipped an epidsode.

Oddly I wanted to carry on watching after the first 2 episodes, my wife not so much & by the end she was keener to finish it & I was a bit meh about it.

As a man of a certain age I love the first 2 movies, & feel since then nothing has come close to capturing the feel, special mention to Alien Romulus tho, I thought that was the best Alien thing since 1986.

I am slightly disappointed that they didn't tell the story in one series, I am not sure I want it keep putting them out what's wrong with one & done? The Watchmen series did this much better & managed to get it's points across much better too.

Just finished it, thought it was a complete mess but also very enjoyable. They definitely could have tightened it up and made it basically less ridiculous without losing anything, but there does come a point somewhere along that line where you start giving up on the opportunities you get when you set aside having to make sense, it's not a one way thing. And it definitely did gain in places from just doubling down on the ridiculousness, it never feels like it's in a box.

And like anything else where you have The Smartest Person In The World they always inevitably end up doing really stupid things. Partly because nobody can write The Smartest Person In The World because to do that you have to be the smartest person in the world, but mostly because it's more fun to have people do stupid things. But it glares sometimes. Equally the entire franchise is rooted in Let's Do Something Stupid so why not.

(I spent a bit of time just catching up on internet threads and theories and such and I think that's actually pretty funny, lots of stuff that they clearly just did Because It's Cool and then there's 10000 words of fan theory on why this ties to that ties to that. My dudes, they threw a lot of pasta at the wall and made a picture out of what stuck, and then just for lolz made one entire episode out of what was on the floor)

Beautifully filmed, lots of great performances, great soundtrack, lots to like. The best bit was obviously the awesome organ noise at the start, it's like Russo just went "well OBVIOUSLY they should have got Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross for this thing, I will now make the most Reznorian noise ever. GRRRAAAAAAAHHHHHHHIINNNNGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGWAAAHHHHHHHH"

Thought it looked amazing, always wanted a movie sequel on earth. As a series it got about half way before it fell apart but yeah, I still enjoyed it a lot. Roll on series 2

Apart from Kane looking into the egg (and why not he's wearing a space suit after all) no one in Alien does anything stupid that cannot be explained by circumstance and not simply for plot purposes. that's why it works and everything after it isn't nearly as good.

Kane didn't just "look into the egg", he went "yeah guys lower me from the room with the alien guy who exploded from the inside, through this anus, into this terrifying cave full of weird alien shit specifically so that I can stare into a weird egg".

And then they break all the quarantine rules, and bring him back- which is understandable, but stupid. They put him in "isolation" but when the facehugger falls off him, they go running into the medbay and even leave the door open- sure the facehugger is dead but they don't know that. And then they just let him out and sit having breakfast with him like nothing ever happened.

Going after the cat was stupid, going into the vents was stupid, the whole thing with "Ripley has translated the warning but we can't communicate with Kane" was stupid and it all happens just for dramatic reasons. Which to be fair, some of the stupid stuff in the rest of the franchise seems to happen for no reason at all, not ever for drama.

Nah, Ash breaks quarantine when it looks like Ripley won't, because that's his programming, remember?
