I did wonder why Kirsh sent Tootles in,
Plot development. It's why all the characters do stupid things. They're just there to move the plot along.
Oh, and the android-munching blue bottles are dead ringers for Patrick Hockstetter's flying leeches, as described in Stephen King's It.
Favourites are still Ade Edmondson, Timothy Olyphant and the sheep.
They are all going to leave Tracey Island on a boat together.
This will be the foundation of series2.
It did actually occur to me that we're going to end up with a Life of Pi scenario at some point, given the plan to escape by boat.
The sheep and Olyphant are the only characters who can remotely be classed as good actors. Edmonson is terrible, he had more gravitas in Bottom.
Still enjoying it. Some of it is dumb, obvs. I've no problem at all with Edmondson.
Where’s the AE merch?
id love to purchase a xenomorph in a Rodin’s ‘thinker’ pose. 😂😂😂
Ok, episode 7 was daft. Thick jungle with a week worn path through it yet the highly trained but seemingly clueless guards can't find a pair of kids carrying a body.
Oh, or were they not meant to? Kirsh could at least be watching them on CCTV.
Five episodes in. Ho hum. Oh well, at least Gen V is back.
Watched all three episodes so far this morning. Could teach the A: E team a few things about pace, scripting, internal consistency and yoof characters that even an old **** like me can care about.
It was fun seeing the xenomorph playing at being a Predator. Yes it's all got very silly, but enjoyable nonetheless.

I got the feeling he knew exactly what was going on and was leading them/the weiland/yutani guys into a trap. I need to rewatch to check but didn't he send them the long way round (presumably to give it time to gestate?)
Ps
I'm still enjoying it!
Reckon we'll see a Xeno or two lay waste to a lot of people in the next episode.
Where was the jungle anyway? I thought the ship crashed into a big ol' city? The gaps between eps is making it hard work 😀
The jungle is on Tracey Island where Boy Genius lives with Ade Edmonton and discount Roy Batty.
As for the Xenos getting in some bodycount, they are not doing badly as of now. I want to see what the eyeball is going to do with the sheep.
I’m hoping “the eye” gets given the Cyborg’s body (the guy from the crashed ship) so that we get an alien/human/machine hybrid. Torn about whether I want that to then take on the xeno, or if it should go all out to destroy the humans only to be stopped by the mineral eating bugs taking out it’s non-organic parts.
Still got the plant alien...... Have no idea if that's a red herring of sorts and will do nothing ever...
And the ticks!
Pretty sure Boy genius is planning to put the eyeball into Wendy's brother? That way she can communicate/control him like she does with the Xenomorph. That's the impression I got anyway...
Yeah, I presumed that he meant Hermit as well. Especially as he can turn off his lung any time he wants to control/limit the Eye.
I want to see what the eyeball is going to do with the sheep.
I think the eyeball is just passing time until the next big move..
Pretty sure Kirsh Boy genius is planning to put the eyeball into Wendy's brother Boy genius?
Which might be ..^^ 😉
I did start to wonder if Kirsh might be a long term sleeper agent, set up by Yutani
If it's to be 8 episodes there's a lot to fit into the last one. But clearly teeing up many series.
I don’t know why because it obviously awful but somehow I’m getting hooked.
I started off hoping it might be another Andor but maybe its going to be more like Blake’s 7 - so bad it’s good.
line if the series so far : Mr Strawberry says **** off!
I did start to wonder if Kirsh might be a long term sleeper agent, set up by Yutani
I think Kirsh = David from Prometheus/Covenant. More interested in satisfying his own scientific curiosity than following orders or loyalty to any particular human or corporation.
Also why he sent Tootles in to the lab on his own and allowed the other two to go off with the facehugger body. He's interested in what his test subjects will choose to do. He's quite happy to let both them and humans die as he makes his observations.
I'm quite enjoying it TBH, I tend to like Noah Hawley's other stuff (Fargo, Legion), so I think it has plenty of potential.
I feel like I'm watching a series based on a really good book that due to time constraints they've chopped out 75% of the explanation of what the hell is going on and why. Still look forward to watching every Wednesday but please, please let the last episode be a goodun
Watched the first 3 episodes so far. Like many others have said Ep 1 was OK, not terrible, just a bit disconnected and didn't seem to gel with the Aliens franchise.
Ep 2 better, and much more watchable. Ep 3 getting quite good now, so I'm looking forward to the remaining instalments.
Kirsh is no scientist. Test subject A studying test subject B - Karl Popper would not approve.
I am utterly baffled that anyone's struggling to follow this. The only way it could feature more exposition would be to have it narrated by a slightly high-sounding Dereck Jacobi, a la In the Night Garden.
Still somewhat enjoyable nonsense. Liked Nibs going postal. I'm feel like I'm seeing a lot of bottom jaws being ripped out in film and TV these days. Also just found out that the actor playing her is 31!
Kirsh totally doing a David, albeit with fewer homoerotic flute lessons. So far...
Nibs was always the one most likely to freak out, even before she had her memories messed up. Given the eyeball went for her initially (and probably helped her along the path to flipping out) I wonder if Boy Genius will use he stunned/shorted out body as a vehicle for it and it will go even more psycho...
It has a kind of Westworld feel to it with Wendy/Marci in the Dolores role - her character arc is certainly taking a darker turn.
yer the eyeball being intelligent is great
but the eyeball also knows arabic numbers is pretty impressive we struggle to decipher 1000's of year old earth texts, this thing worked our numbers out easily. were they in stasis for the whole flight back? ie decades? if not i guess it has enough time to decipher screens it may have seen in the lab...
Im clearly thinking too much about this
I am utterly baffled that anyone's struggling to follow this.
Indeed, Boy Genius exclaiming that he knows who to use as a test subject for the eyeball, and the very next shot is a close up of Hermits face....hmmmmm, I wonder what that could mean?
Yer the brother has been a thorn in his side, but risk upsetting Wendy???
I have no idea, i have no idea why Kirsh is doing his own thing, I assume he's a Prodigy created android, so there should be unquestionable loyalty... i assume...
Unless Boy Genius is not as genius as he thinks and has messed up the programming, maybe by forgetting to First Law him.
Also, eyeball... It's the size of a tennis ball, errrr, squash ball? How big could the brain be in something like that?
Kirsh is acting for Prodigy, and its owner, no? Set up the AI to want to "break shit and see what happens" and you don't have to get your own hands so bloody towards that aim.
Kirsch could be a sleeper, but I’m sure that every now and then, Prodigy would run some diagnostics on him and make sure that his original protocols are intact.
I'm ignoring the plot holes/inconsistencies and still thoughly enjoying it. Great ending this week will ginger lass going mental/qotsa too.
I think Kirsch is trying to disrupt the hybrid programme - as they are a threat to androids like him.
How big could the brain be in something like that?
That’s a very literal take. It’s an alien - we can’t assume it needs a similarly-sized brain to have intelligence.
Unless Boy Genius is not as genius as he thinks and has messed up the programming, maybe by forgetting to First Law him.
Also, eyeball... It's the size of a tennis ball, errrr, squash ball? How big could the brain be in something like that?
The first law hasn’t be installed yet as the timeline is before Alien.
Yeah, did you forger concentrated acid for blood? How does that work?
Well that was an interesting (very good) final episode – some bits I had assumed would happen, others not so much. Nicely set up for Season Two, although I can imagine it will become a bit formulaic now that all the cats appear to be out of the bag.
My daughter has been gripped by the series. Nice to have her watch something beyond the usual vacuous nonsense, though I accept that this is just vacuous nonsense that I happen to like.
Strong "Pinky & The Brain" vibes at the end there.
What a great end to the season. Some nice little twists and turns in there.
The storyline I am looking forward to most for Series Two (which surely will be commissioned) is...
Also like the xeno and the mini-xeno, so cute!
I’m not sure there will be a series 2.
The eye in the hole bloke was surely just a joke and there aren’t really any loose ends.
Was an acceptable finale to a lightweight series but I can’t help thinking there were some great ideas wasted along the way.
I was hoping the eye would end up in the boy genius. That would have been fun.
That was OK but it fell a little flat for me. Who guessed the eyeball would be able to reanimate a rather non functional corpse? Or that xenomorphs were up for being given instructions like a sheep dog?
Was an acceptable finale to a lightweight series but I can’t help thinking there were some great ideas wasted along the way.
Pretty much my thinking too. It feel to me like they planned it as a multi-season thing and this is just the first act.
Although I really enjoyed the series as a whole, I can't help feeling they kinda squandered the horror of the alien.
The xeno was terrifying in Alien and Aliens because they were trapped with it, and couldn't shoot at it because of the acid blood. But here they're in an open space, there are a bunch of dudes with machine guns yet still can't seem to injure it. Also it's just so obedient to Wendy, it's like a puppy sitting there wagging its tail waiting for its next instruction.
Nonetheless, some great moments in the last ep, like

series was ok and I’ve mostly enjoyed it.
The series finale was flat, not great for a finale, where you’d kind of expect the team to go all out - but no, couple of decent moments in the lab, but the rest felt like they were just going through the motions.
why have the alien womble around like a puppy, obeying Wendy and doing nothing else? Where’s the horror from the universes most awesome lifeform?
series 2 must be a slam dunk, as this was just a warm up to set the scene - surely?
maybe this aim of a lightweight alien series is to appeal to a wider audience, with less of the in your face xenomorph horror.
I’m still rooting for the eye to win.

But with Wendy in control of two of them, I assume they will play a big part in future series.
For me it seemed like a long build up for that final episode.
And is that alien bullet proof? The amount of gunfire at it through the series is should have more holes than a sieve. Or where they trained to Stormtrooper standard of shooting.
I'm still waiting for something actually interesting to happen.
I think the downfall of so many of these series is their insistence on building a storyline that will play into another series. On the flip side, I love the long form these things can take with time to build a real narrative arc. Andor being a great case.
I must've watched a different series to most of you. Dull bollox with not a single character I was interested in.

Why did you watch almost eight hours of it then?
I was searching for the tension, complexity and intricate plotting you lot seemed to be finding. Watched over a couple of days because shit weather kept me indoors.
Even with the numerous problems with some of the writing and characters decisions, I did like the finale. Will definitely watch a second season, if there is one.
I do feel like the Xenomorph was almost completely superfluous to the plot though. Imho they could have killed it off in the ship crash and focused more on the other, more interesting aliens and synth/android/UI issues, without the fans losing interest.
Again, looking at Andor, it shows you can set something in a shared universe, without having to overuse the same IP ideas and characters. Tell a good story and people will watch it!
I watched the finale last night in my tent on a hill, hoping it'd redeem the previous seven episodes. Fortunately I also had the latest Gen V episode to wake me afterwards - brace yourself for the cistern up-shot...
I was searching for the tension, complexity and intricate plotting you lot seemed to be finding.
But you hated it after three episodes – I am perplexed why you'd carry on watching it. Even if you are stuck inside, there's a million more things you could do. Hell, if you were bed-ridden, there is still loads more to watch on Disney, BBC, ITV etc.

Yeah, I tend to agree. It was, for me, the least interesting character and the full body shots did make it look a bit 'bloke in a leather suit'.
Reading comprehension fail. I said the first three episodes of Gen V could teach AE stuff about pace and scripting. I didn't hate AE, just thought it was a bit shit and in no way worthy of the forensic dissection you've subjected it to. I kept watching because I'm in my late 50s and grew up with the franchise.
I thought it was entertaining. That's why I watched it all.
Reading comprehension fail.
Ahh, yes. Still weird that you sat through eight hours of something you didn't enjoy. FWIW, I have started watching Gen V – it's okay, but it just feels a bit X-Men just with added sex, swearing and drug use to make it edgy. After one episode it hasn't caught my attention like A:E did.
Like everything that has come after Alien, it was just disappointing.
Big fuss made about all the new aliens they've discovered and half of them just end up as plot devices, and didn't explore one at all until the last episode and then Surprise! It eats you...
the xenomorph as v aggressive sheep dog is a bit too daft for me
the "synthetic human" hierarchy storyline could've been interesting but they've just made the children comic-book superheros so that's going to be boring now. And they go from bumbling idiots and the mentally unwell to Unstoppable super computers on legs in the space of a few hours...
Loads of script that was waaay too portentous and daft, and plot development needs that make idiots of the characters.
And they go from bumbling idiots and the mentally unwell to Unstoppable super computers on legs in the space of a few hours...
Well, one of them does. Over the course of the whole series. The rest are failing and falling apart in all sorts of different ways. Is that about family?
why have the alien womble around like a puppy, obeying Wendy and doing nothing else? Where’s the horror from the universes most awesome lifeform?
They operate as hive controlled by a queen, not independently unless there is no queen. Wendy became the queen.
Well, kinda. If we believe cannon, they can exist as individuals outside the hive (Alien, Alien3), but can be directed by a queen for more effektiv results (Aliens, Resurrection). In this case, the Xeno and the baby Xeno seem to have accepted Wendy as the queen and are happy to be directed by her (or so I see it).
I mean, animals bond with non-same species others for that sort of thing.
I'd be more interested to see the collection of said beasties over what comes next. And only one eye? I suppose it might parthenogenesise but it doesn't feel like that much of threat and could be killed pretty easily.

That’s exactly what I said.
well well well, so the aliens got out and and killed everyone and the robots* rose up and overthrew their masters. If only the boy genius saw this coming
Security guy: "I saved your life, the lung, yeah? Doesn't it feel great to be more than human?"
Poopscoop: "The lung? Pfft. Let me tell you about my cock."
.........................
I'm really torn by this series. Alien, and Aliens 2 (SE ofcourse) are right up there with my favourite films ever.
The series? Well... It's better than ok but the series really made me work for it sometimes.
The kids. Hmmm.... I dont mind the premise but they are so bloody unlikable. I really wanted Wendy to be the new Ripley but she's utterly forgettable and had the nerve to go postal at her brother for protecting his friends after she went full on "One Man and his Dog" and started talking dolphin out of her ears or something.
All that said. The baddies in the series!?
Oh yes. Oh my.
Superb, I luv 'em, one an' all.
The nutty professor, bad arse security guy, the pervy crewman and our Adrian obvs. Ruddy excellent and I was rooting for them most of the time. The eye too, wonderfully gross but so will imagined. No bloody idea where these other aliens fit into the Alien universe but it's fine by me if they add to it rather than detract from it. (Plant and fly, I'm looking at you.)
So...
The "kids"...sigh... they had to be there for the ratings and that's absolutely fine but I mostly just yawned and waited for the wonderfully nasty grown ups to arrive and really liven things up. The child genius? Annoying but he was always meant to be just that so that's cool and we all know who's he was meant to be, right.😉
Other than that, if Musk brings back alien life forms from Mars and outsources quarantine to G4S and also let's turn also design the quarantine enclosures I think it's fair to say it's entirely what we deserve! 😁
There'll be a series 2 I'm sure and though it won't happen, I really wish it could all be set aboard a deep space research ship like ep 4 or whatever it was. Fantastic bit of TV. Genuinely, it made me remember just how good Alien was all those years ago.
It's been a long wait and it's only what we deserve. 😉
By the way, if any of you SF nuts haven't watched Foundation yet for lords sake, go and watch it. It's the best SF series I've watched in my 56 years on this particular planet.
Brought to you by the happily merry Poop of the Scoop.
now up to date
Meh
my sentiments echo most of the above, I am only, and will continue to watch, because the Alien franchise is one of my favorite things...
I hate the Xeno/man in a rubber suit.. some one said earlier that the original alien man in a rubber suit was more realistic..and after some of the outdoor shots in this, i agree.. and why is the big xeno a brown colour?
Oh look, an eye alien has just tried to crawl into my brain, luckily my sister kicked it aside.. no idea where it went so we will just have a conversation and not bother looking for it...
The only redeeming thing, in the entire show...is Sidney Chandler's acting...being a kid in a synthetic body and finding her place in the world...bad writing aside...
As soon as i watch thunderbolts i can pause my disney plus now
Came to say similar to Alan1977, echoing most of the sentiments. The pace and story was all over the place, perhaps intentionally to keep us guessing. Certainly seems like this first series is just teeing up a multiple threads for future series. The only interest I have in the whole series is with the eyeball.
Sidney Sweeney's acting
You must be thinking of "Euphoria: Earth" there 😀
For me, it was silly, but good enough, and violent enough 🙂 to watch the whole series and look forward to the next one.
