Anybody purchased anything via this direct from overseas merchant (mostly based in China I assume) website?

I guess there’s little comeback if the merchant takes your cash and then either sends you something that you didn’t order, disappears or ignores you?

I use AliExpress occasionally. Alibaba is more setup for selling industrial equipment or in bulk. AliExpress is more like Amazon. The app is a bit of a pain unless you have the exact product name sometimes.

The occasional time something isn't as described you just send them a photo/video and a refunds come through almost immediately.

Stuff like ZTTO dropper levers, metal brake lever pistons, Garmin mounts, bulk bags of oilves and barbs, crank end caps. Usually it's only half the price of the same stuff being resold on eBay/Amazon, and a tenth of the price of 'branded' stuff.

Environmentally, no worse than buying the same stuff anywhere else. Arguably a few less warehouses and shops in the supply chain to heat 🤷

Thanks. Does alibaba itself offer any protection or rely on the merchant.

It seems that some will sell in small numbers. Looking at an ASHP that is a fraction of the cost even with 400 or so quid on shipping!

Used to be really great - same as buying off good eBay Chinese vendors. Never used to pay hardly any import duty or taxes until recently due to sensible vendors massively under declaring the value of the goods - don't get away with that one anymore :(. Bought genuine XT M8000 2x11 groupset (cassette, chain, crankset, bb, f&r derailleurs, sti levers and 4 pot M8020 brake calipers) for just over £400 about 4 years ago got held up at Cusoms for about half a day while I paid £4 or so import duty! Took just over 3 weeks from order to delivery - I had also ordered during Chinese New Year holidays. Not had any complaints about anything from the Far East TBH except for the fact that nowadays they've had to be truthful about the value of the gear and so it's not so bargainmongous.

Doh!!! Of course I meant AliExpress - long day - BRAINFADE

Loads more stuff used to ship FOC - less so now.

Thanks for the suggestion, Nothing comparable on wish though, or at least not when I used the search function which seemed to give a random list of items.
