Hi
We’re going to Alcudia and I’ll hopefully be able to get out for an hour and maybe a three hour ride once.
I’m looking for a good bike hire shops that might supply a Garmin with some routes to follow possibly?
Any good hour blasts recommended please?
One of these maps is great if you're planning to cycle in Mallorca. Has all the roads on it with the best cycling ones colour coded. Contains a few recommended routes too, plus it's plastic backed paper so can go in your back pocket.
There is absolutely masses of bike hire available over there now, just depends on what kind of bike you fancy trying.
Just take your own Garmin. It's not hard to find your way round over there, just follow all the millions of other cyclists.
If you go into the tourist informatio office n in Porto Pollenca, they have free cycle route maps with around ten or so options including most of the obvious classic excursions, I suspect you'll find similar in Alcudia. s
Any good hour blasts recommended please?
The ride out and back to the lighthouse at Formentor is a little slice of brilliance, though it'll take more than an hour.
Nice route and climb for a short blast from Alcudia is to head to Ermita de la Vitoria, then coming back down take a right turn along the headland, past the military stop sign and road is eventually blocked around 500m past that. To extend it I just repeated the first climb from the restaurant at the bottom. Honestly I love that climb and views, even though only around a mile. https://www.strava.com/activities/1753244445
You can ride up the other side of the headland to the car park for the Platja del Coll Baix but the road gets pretty rough and I wasn't able to do the last 50m steep rise on 28mm tyres. The beach is a very long walk down so not suitable for a quick dip. Only worth it if you fancy some rough gravel riding. https://www.strava.com/activities/1750652267
Loads of longer rides but I was with family in summer so didn't really have time to do any.I suspect the ride to Formentor lighthouse would be worth a look.
The ride to formentor is a bucket list ride..simply the greatest road I have ever been on. It's out and back and from alcudia 35 miles with around 3000 ft of climbing and not a pothole in sight.
It has ruined cycling for me, knowing as I do that that road exists, yet I have to spend my time cycling on the potholed, traffic filled roads of Scotland.. usually when it's raining
Trust me..the bit between pollenca and the light house is simply stunning.
If you have a car you could head out to sa collabra and so the climb. It's also breath taking, but not particularly easy to get to if you are time limited.
Excellent thanks. Yeah I’ve heard of the lighthouse ride and plan to do it. Looks amazing.
Thanks again
I've hired from wheeelsport in alcudia and pro cycle hire in Puerto pollensa and can recommend both. Playa de muro sa Pobla selva luc monastery then down to pollensa and back to alcudia is good but the lighthouse is a classic. It has an unlit tunnel so a back light is a good idea. There are photographers on the lighthouse ride and sa calobra if you want a pic of yourself. Stop and they'll give you a business card with the web address on. Weather great tarmac courteous drivers and beautiful scenery itll ruin the UK for you.
The lighthouse ride is great but can be very busy with cars and buses. Best done early morning or in the evening.
My favourite half day route from the Pollenca/Alcudia side is the Lluc loop, going up the Col de sa Batalla and down the Col de Femenia.
