I want to frame some album/LP covers to hang on the wall.

I already have the frames but I don't actually have any album covers (I was CDs then streaming).

Anyway, I could either buy the real LP itself, record and all, and just frame the cover, but this isn't cheap for new LPs and s/hand might get a tatty cover.

So I thought I might be able to buy the album cover as just a good quality print... does anyone know where/if this is possible? Amazon has some prints but they are already framed, and limited choices.

I also thought I could just take a jpeg file to a local printer and get them to print it to the right size, but I'd need a pretty high-quality digital photo/file for this to work, and I'm not sure where would be then best place to get that file.

Any ideas?

Part of the charm surely.

For any 'popular' album you can almost certainly find a re-press or the like for sub £10 and a quick rummage through any record shop's used section will probably get you plenty of matierial for less than the cost of a high quality custom print.

yeah I've been watching a few on ebay, with reasonably undamaged covers by the looks of the pics.

How much are new LPs in the shops? Say HMV?

Home inkjet printers are capable of photographic quality prints these days you know!

Slight hijack I know but, I want to do the same, I have the album covers but dithering over what frames to get. They need to be a bit larger than 12" square to fit album covers. Plain black wood is preferred. Any recommendations?

it needs to be 32 x 32cm though, so bigger than A3 width (297mm)...

There are some decent colour printers at work but they are just too small.

Try Etsy. I'm looking at some album cover collages on posters. They have alot of options.

Print A3, cut to a square, will give about a 4-5mm border all the way round, frame with a backing card or border mount card (ebay). If it's not actually album sleeves, but for artwork, does it matter that it's not properly filling the frame?

You do really! 🙂

Some printers will print anything - some won't touch copyrighted material. But I bet most of the stuff on etsy and ebay have grabbed their images from that search engine place and won't be paying any record companies any money.

The best frames I’ve found are from the Range. Nice chunky black wooden frames with either a 16” x16” if you want a window mount, or a 12” x 12” without a window mount. Great quality for the money. The larger frame with the window mount look really nice up on the wall

For printing: for the price I’d get them done properly. Don’t fanny around with desktop stuff. High quality digital print is so cheap nowadays, it’s not worth skimping. It’ll cost you more for inkjet cartridges

Find a local sign printer with a wide-format digital press and use them. That’s what I do. Print quality is top draw and I print into UV-fast heavy duty photographic paper

Whereabouts are you. If you’re near Manchester I can recommend a brilliant place

cheers Binners. I have some Ikea frames I'll try initially but thanks for the Range link. I'm in Lancaster, so not a million miles from Manc.

I'm going to try a local printer and see how that goes. I think you're right re. the quality of paper, so I'll see what they can do.

Check out discogs for 2nd hand vinyl - recently got my partner near mint condition single of the record that was number one on their birthday & it was a couple of quid.

£25 and upwards, I think. As I stopped buying vinyl in the dark, dismal days of the early 1980’s, when albums were so thin and flexible you could bend the sides around until they touched, and even worse the vinyl was often recycled. The sleeves were probably the best bits!

I am excited about getting In The Court of the Crimson King by King Crimson on the wall!

Good call, absolutely iconic design, and album - I was still at school and a classmate brought a copy into school, and let me borrow it. It completely changed my whole idea of what music could be!
‘Starless and Bible Black’ is another great Crimson album and design, created by a member of the Royal Academy of Art, no less, Tom Phillips RA, who was Brian Eno’s design teacher.
Finally got to see them fifty years later! 😎
